Best Buy is still a pretty good place to get basic electronics like TVs, audio equipment, and so on.

Yeah you can get them from Wal-Mart or Target as well, but Best Buy is generally more convenient if that's all you want. Every time I pass by Wal-Mart I think about picking something up and then realize that would invovlve having to deal with their 2 open of 70 total checkout lanes.

Only problem with Best Buy is the prices. They sure love them 100+ dollar hdmi cables because they're super fancy.

I wouldn't be suprised if that's even why they're still around, all those installation and service fees like geeksquad.

They did ditch DVDs not too long ago, so at least they're shaving products off.

I'll somewhat miss SEARS, what with its odd disarrangement and not knowing what exactly it wants to be as a 1990's time capsule.

I dont understand why it was so hard for them to adapt to online sales. Most every other big name retailer managed to do it fine but Sears was just like nah just give it a few years. This fad will die out.

Sears has been dead to me since the late 80s or early 90s, when they got rid of videogames and computers.

They used to even have their own damn console at one point.

To drive customers into a pace.

I once went in, grabbed a dvd, was ready to go plop down my 5 dollars plus tax. Only had 1 register open in electronics and 1 person in line. Stand there and wait since it's no big deal, look around at their stuffs in the meantime. Eventually it occurs to me I'm behind one of those people. I hold out, but the customer in front is calling 1-2 people about a card not working or something. So I eventually slink to the front and there's only 4-5 open, all jam packed with 5+ per in the middle of the day. Go back to electronics to see it's still held up. Took about 22-24 minutes from pick up to receipt.

At least Arachnophobia is a good movie.

Not really. They open all or most of them on black Friday and the ass end of December around Christmas.

But they never have enough open for the rest of the year

Walmart is notorious for being understaffed. Good luck if Walmart is the only store in town and you need paint mixed up, or an item that's locked, or a firearm purchase, or fabric cut or etc.

Sounds about right.
I was going to post how it's insane that none of these stores are price-matching a site that fucking delivers "for free" (with a prime account) but apparently some of them do, why the fuck they're not making that painfully obvious is beyond me.

It's no wonder they can't compete, the benefits of shopping in person just aren't there anymore, reviews are superior to hands-on and instead of an experienced sales associate that wants to help you and make sure you get what's right for you, they have assholes trying to upsell, push bs warranties, etc
They all have done it to themselves.

I worked at Sears a couple years ago during the holiday season. It fucking sucked. I signed on as a "back-room associate" since I thought that meant I wouldn't have to deal with customers. Turns out that position does basically everything except the cash register. If someone ordered something online for in-store pickup, I got an alert and had to go on a scavenger hunt through the store to find the item. Sometimes it was stocked in the back, but usually I had to go to the department and spend like 10 minutes looking for something that sometimes wasn't even there because of how disorganize the system was. And of course customers would come up to me with questions that I didn't know the answer to since I wasn't trained for a lot of it. At best I could point them to the correct department for what they were looking for.

There WAS an electronics section, but it was comically out of date. There was an empty shelf for Xbox 360 games. The Xbone had already been out for a long time by that point.

Oh, and fun fact. When you order something for delivery, it doesn't come from a warehouse. It comes from the nearest store that happens to have it in stock. Then it falls on the employees to box it up and stick the label on it and everything. Always wash your clothes before wearing them for the first time.

Sounds like they changed up the positions a little since I had worked there. The backroom associates only did online orders, unloaded trucks, and assisted with heavier equipment at the time. I was an MCA (Merchandise Customer Assistant). I didn't have to deal with online orders but I did carry around an Intermec that would show me if we have a particular item in stock. I was stocking shelves and cleaning up the sales floor/fitting rooms the majority of the time. Black Friday and the holidays were total fucking garbage though because we'd get so many people coming in saying that they saw an item online that supposedly we have in stock or they'd call and a cashier would tell them that we had it, yet we didn't actually have it available. So I'd be the first line of contact with the (understandably) psychotic customer that drove an hour away to pick up something that we didn't have.

The Sears in my local mall is somehow still there, even though it always appeared deserted whenever I looked in there.
Speaking of the mall, it actually seems to be doing alright, perhaps because it got a big movie theater and a half-dozen restaurants(not including the food court) to move in. The other old "anchor" stores(Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods) probably aren't doing great, but people are always in Target(it's the pro place to buy theater snacks).
