Seriously a 20 second spray paint art sells for 1.4m then they hype this artists crap up even more by half shredding the paper after it sells

You just gotta make a name for yourself. Nobody cares about the actual composition of work. Its all about who you are and what your art has done to the world.

Banksy once sat outside of the metropolitan museum of art on the sidewalk with other artists selling his stencils for $50 a pop.

It in itself was a piece, and they went up in value by a shit ton of money, obviously.

I like banksys ideas a lot of the time... hes funny, and rips on the art world... which I like as it deserves it.

Anyhow, Jenny Saville just shattered some records herself recently with a 9.3million solar sale at auctions... highest price for a living female artist

One of Francis bacons pieces sold for like 236million.

Art is funny, for the 1.4million dollar banksy, its less about the work itself as much as its about all of his work cumulatively, plus, this became much different and inherently more valuable after the shredding.

None of that money went to her. She painted and sold that in the early 90s when she was in art school.

I didnt say that it did and Im more than aware. The record is the highest selling price for a living female artist... what that does do for her is make it so that every piece she does after and has done before goes up in value.

She isnt hurting any from that sale, at all.

1. Most of the art is worth the money it is because of who made it. If you found a piece of garbage doodle that Picasso did when he was 6 years old, it would probably be worth 30 million at minimum.

2. A lot of these auctions are for charity. Most the money gets donated. The artist doesn't get all of it. The guy who bought it gets a nice tax write-off.

I remember Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine) did a series once where Rat was imitating the environmental artist Christo. Pastis noted that "Christo's work consists of draping stuff in tarps and getting people to pay him millions of dollars for it. Some people question if he's really a genius. I don't. If you can get people to give you millions of dollars for draping stuff with tarps, you're a genius."
