I wonder how many billions of dollars have been spent trying to figure out why everybodys so fat?

Well, we have heard nothing for the past twenty years other than carbs are bad! and stay away from calories!

Its time to start naming the real problem: sugar.

In America, everything has sugar in it. Foods that are advertised as healthy alternatives contain more sugar. These active cereals and granola snacks are candy. Plain and simple. Just compare the amounts of sugar to a chocolate bar.

I would love to see a federal mandate that forces ANY food product containing more than 2g/serving should be required to display the information on the FRONT of the box. There are so many types of food that just conviently forget to mention sugar. Out of sight, out of mind... This should also be against the law. This is usually stuff like beef jerky that contains shocking amounts of it.

When I cut calories and carbohydrates, all I lost was energy. I cut sugar out and that made all the difference.

Arming people with knowledge doesn't really seem to help, though. They already know that the food they're eating is unhealthy, they just don't care.

Like, you could literally have a black box warning right on the front that a certain food has the potential to cause sudden death and people would still eat it if it tasted good.

Edit: It is pretty disgusting just how much sugar is in everything though, even stuff that sugar has no business being in. Unfortunately, it's like everything else where lobbyists have the government and so-called "protection" agencies in their pocket so they're allowed free reign over the general populace and can fuck over our health and our planet however they see fit.

And the obese need to cut their calorie intake from 12000/day to less than 4000/day.

This isn't true for everybody though, even if it's true for a lot, as smoking has shown. Tc's point about granola for example is true, granola bars have even more sugar than chocolate sometimes and yet people think they're healthy. Same with breakfast cereals.

So educating the population about stuff like that will get at least some healthy conscious, even if it's not everyone.

It's called get off your ass and be active. Walk places.

Kids have to be MADE to go outside now. When I was a kid it was all "Okay it's getting late. It's time to come in now!" and that was met with all the kids wanting to stay outside but not having that choice.

Now you make them go outside because they need to and they say "There's nothing to DO out here!" even on an awesome summer day.

I generally stick to cigarettes, coffee, booze and Scotch.

But I've dropped 5lbs since I quit drinking soda.

Generally I'm at between 135 and 140.

Now I'm at 130.

Thought I had something that was killing me.

I'm not dead yet though.

I mean, come on - people know what foods are and aren't healthy for you, lots just seem to be greedy and/or lack self control, coupled with laziness and not wanting to do much physical activity

I enjoy an occasional pizza or bar of chocolate, but I eat healthy the majority of the time and also play two sports. Amazingly, I am not obese!

The real problem is eating 3-6 times a day. Our bodies arent meant to eat all damn day long. For billions of years our ancestors ate, at best, once a day. Intermittent fasting is how we have evolved to eat. Now were stuffing our fat faces from the time we wake up until the time we go to bed.

Isnt an adult male supposed to be limited to like 30-34 grams of simple sugar a day?

If you have cereal and cream (and sugar lol) in your coffee in the morning youre done lmao, never mind that all sorts of foods have sugar in them....which would taste just fine without it but every company wants that edge for Lord Dollar.

oh please you guys on this board make it sound like im posting some ridiculous insane crap. all im saying is to stop eating those industrialized processed oils, that dwarf laboratory wheat that is most common on this planet and to stop eating commercial milk.

and no you dont have to exercise to have a low bodyfat percentage and to be healthy.

seriously its ridiculous how aggressive some people are on the internet.

but continue drinking your alcohol, watching porn nonstop, eating bread with soybean oil " butter ", your milk filled with pus and bacteria from a cow who has estrogen implants in their ears.

but im sure some people on this board know im right even though you have so many people trying to discredit what im saying and to brainwash other people.

Everybody ignoring the real problem as usual.

For 3 dollars you can get two donuts and a giant soda with change left over.

Isn't enough money for a salad or a fruit.

The reason people eat fast food is because it's cheap. There have been times when I have been digging between the couch cushions for money for food because my bank account ran out of money while I was paying bills. I'd much rather use that money for a bag of grapes and some natural juice, but the best I can do is soda and donuts.

Organic and healthy food is expensive. Processed food is not. Naturally when the vast majority of the country aren't even making enough money to afford a living, they don't have the money to shell out for healthy food. Average cost of living in the US is 50k/year, average working class citizen is lucky to break 20k with a full time job.

yes i understand, but the problem is that people are now mentally directed towards junk food because of the chemicals they put in them. for $3 you can easily get 2 cans of tuna fish and a can of mixed vegetables and you have a meal right there. but it doesnt taste as good to people that have already have their taste buds and brain chemistry altered.

One other thing that pisses me off:

I went to sonic and looked at their ice cream menu. Each item said how many calories were in the ice cream, but it never mentioned the 125g of sugar thats included in a small shake.

The problem is that people cant visualize what theyre eating. One sugar cube is four grams of sugar. If your packet of salad dressing has 8g or sugar, then you just crumbled two sugar cubes into your salad.

I saw some jelly beans for sale near a checkout counter, a few months ago. Fat free! Never mind the sugar, its fat free! My brother was telling me about some kind of beef jerky and said it didnt have sugar. Turns out they just didnt list how much was in there (accidentally, Im sure). There was like 12g/serving.

See, when Canada does their dietary info, they list _all_ the ingredients, daily percentages, and raw numbers. We know how much sugar is in everything. It's why I went from eating Multi-grain Cheerios (roughly 12g of sugar per serving) to eating Rice Krispies, plain Cheerios, and Corn Flakes (2g of sugar in same serving size). That's on top of monitoring my calories.

I think this should be mandatory. Not putting something important on the label is lying to the consumer. A diabetic person could go into a coma because a manufacturer didnt want the public to know the truth.

Heres another one that gets me:
They give you the info on a single serving size, but they make a container have something like 1.3 servings in it. Who is going to leave 0.3 of a coke? Most of us just drink it, and we have to do math to find out how much sugar is actually in it.

I picked up a few boxes of that Kashi health cereal. Its got people climbing mountains and running, and the brand bulls itself of being active food for healthy people. The sugar content was the exact same as Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
