He's pretty much the most iconic character of this generation, many people consider Witcher 3 to be the GotG (and many even consider it the greatest game ever as evidenced by Game Informers recent Fan Vote with Witcher 3 being rated best game ever). He's a badass swords dude, the main character of an RPG, and even getting his own Netflix series. On any other site, I'd consider him one of the favorites to win the entire contest. Then comes into play the fact this is Gamefaqs. They often tend to ignore popular new games and Western games, so I'm wondering just how much this'll effect Geralt. I think Commander Shepard is a good comparison but I think he will be even stronger as he is an established character. Shepard is an avatar, he can be a man or a woman and look however you want him too. His default appearance is pretty recognizable I suppose but not as recognizable as Geralt's. I think Geralt also benefits from the loyalty of his fanbase. I love Mass Effect as much as anybody, but I wouldn't feel obligated to back Shep against any opponent. I would with Geralt and I think most of his fanbase feels this way.
