Park districts can be cheaper than chain gyms. You tend to get a discount if you are a resident of the town, too.
I pay $22/month for a gym membership at my local park district. Full gym (treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, free weights, weight machines), basketball court, running track, sauna & hot tub. --- Live action Hungry Hungry Hippos though, now that was a sport. ~Aeon Azuran ... I'm paying $51 for all the same stuff at the local old ass YMCA. Gym prices in my town are a bit inflated though. The only place that I know of that's cheaper is planet fitness. --- Just because you're trash doesn't mean you can't do great things. It's called garbage can, not garbage cannot. ... Yeah, the place is dirt cheap compared to gym prices around the area. Thats a non-resident rate, too. Its a park district for a suburb just outside of Chicago, and the place has two ice rinks that get a ton of use for hockey and figure skating (the Chicago Wolves do a lot of advertising with it). I think they make a lot of money off those rinks, which allows them to really slash gym membership rates. I hear people who have memberships at Lifetime Fitness in my area and they pay 4-6 times as much per month as I do. --- Live action Hungry Hungry Hippos though, now that was a sport. ~Aeon Azuran ... I used to go to Gold's and paid freaking $45/month for the privilege. Then a Planet Fitness opened up here. Now I pay $10 and haven't looked back since. I miss having a proper squat rack, but that's literally the only thing that I used in Gold's that PF doesn't have.

I know I'm getting ripped off, but there really aren't many other options. Maybe I'll look around more, and just shoot hoops at the school I'm working at
