There are a few that barely missed the cut too (Jill, Knuckles, most Mario-based characters, Auron, Zero, Chief, Sora) that have only missed one, for most of them it was the first one (Jill missed 05 and Knuckles missed 06)

Gordon is such a weird one to me. How did he manage that after both being so weak and also just not really actually being that present in his own game? It makes sense post-Half-Life 2, but his presence seems so odd on this site in those early years.

Do we have a list of characters who have been in every contest since they debuted?

Gordon Freeman was a board fad early on since he never won. And even after that, he was too historic to give up on.

But that said, I don't think we even nominated him that much this year, so I'm surprised to see him.

The Male/Female bracket in 06 really messed up a lot of people who could have gotten in for people who have been in every contest since (Also this was before the expansion to 128)

Sub-Zero is the weirdest one to me, just because of how he did it, debuting in the contest with the fewest number of available spots. you'd think if he could make that contest he would have been in sooner, being a character that was most popular in the 90s.

Usually it just takes a character getting in and proving their popularity once to keep getting back in. Sometimes people just don't think of getting them in until they actually see them.

Sub-Zero probably gets in for 2007 even with a 64 entrant field. It wasn't official, but the 4 packs did appear to be seeded to an extent, and I doubt Joe and Prince got more noms than him.
