I've heard people shit on it and thought that it couldn't be that bad but fuck... it is that bad

Yeah I heard so much hating on them throughout the day so I was curious and looked them up. It is actually incredible how much he sounds like Robert Plant, but embarrassing too. I gave 3 songs a chance, and while they do sound like Led Zeppelin, it really feels like they are trying their best to do a straight imitation of them. I wouldn't go as far as to say I hated it, but it was definitely bad.

One of the funniest comments I ever saw on YouTube was about GVF's lead singer... something along the lines of "wow I've never seen a jewish navajo before" (he had some native american looking attire on)

I disagree about them being one of the worst sounds though. They're just getting started and their sound is unique* enough to catch my interest.

They sound like zeppelin, yeah. They don't have any thing else going for them imo.

It's kinda like people in music who "buy" their sound (buying expensive gear that the pros use) but don't really have anything behind all of that. I just don't think they should be as famous as they are because now they're most likely going to burn out before finding their own sound.

This is pretty true for me. The singer is atrocious and the drums are bland. But also like people are saying, them being a shitty zeppelin ripoff is a lot of it. And they apparently claimed they weren't influenced by zeppelin lol

I don't care for them, but I don't like Led Zeppelin either. The guys vocals are very close to Robert Plant, which is what I don't like about Zeppelin.

It is kind of unfortunate how popular they are when there are some many really good retro rock bands out there that are more talented.

i'm not a fan either, but there are so many worse offenders of bad music, it's odd that you all are singling out this band. they're not even close to as bad as any of you are saying, ok?

As with most things, it's not as bad as people say... but it's pretty fucking bad. That combined with how completely unoriginal it is

That is an insult to Robert Plant. His vocals are what would happen if Robert Plant only knew how to sing in one octave and had to resort to falsetto to hit anything resembling a high note.

I just knew they get played on a radio station here that's playing shit like FFDP and Disturbed 24/7, so I associated it with those acts.

id rather listen to a wannabe Led Zeppelin than most of the mumble rap coming out today. at least their shit wasnt made entirely out of GarageBand loops. But yeah GVF is kinda bad.

Haven't really heard them that much, there's way worse stuff but I wouldn't make a point of listening to them either. Zeppelin are inimitable in a way so when they do get imitated, which happens a lot, people tend to eventually forget about those bands. Remember Wolfmother? GVF is just like the new version of that, they'll probably fade into obscurity in a few years too and then somebody else will come along.

I find the criticisms about vocalists sounding too similar to other vocalists a little weird, though. That's a fair criticism for the instrumentation and writing, but I dunno, can you really just work your way into sounding like someone else vocally? Maybe that's just how they naturally sound.

Definitely. There are tons of tribute bands that are proof of that. Some that sound damn near to identical to the original vocalist

Yeah I forgot about all the tribute bands that are out there. Still, I think you probably just have to naturally have some of the voice. Also I feel like it's gotta take a lot of talent regardless to mimic somebody else's voice... whether or not that's talent well spent is a different question.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely not knocking tribute bands. As far the world of covers goes, I have a lot more respect for tribute bands than I have for musicians that basically function as a live jukebox at some dive. There are some really legit tribute bands that get paid like two to four grand a gig
