PACIFIED! FINALLY!

I played this chapter completely pacifist. I'll probably wait on a Genocide run until every chapter is out, but if anybody wants to spoil how this whole chapter was different in a Genocide run that's fine too.

I think ya'll who are calling this a demo are being unnecessarily negative. Life is Strange 2's first episode just came out -- is anybody else calling that a demo? Or LiS1's first episode? Or the Walking Dead's first episode? We got significant original gameplay and storyline for free, and we don't know yet if we'll even be charged or not for future chapters...that should be commended from a man whose stock grew beyond our imaginations since the original release of Undertale.

Toby Fox, alongside Jonathan Blow and Edmund McMillen, deserves recognition as being arguably the top newly-recognized developer of the past ten years.

It's not too different.

In the final fight against the King, instead of Lancer leading a coup d'etat, Ralsei just pacifies him. And IIRC instead of being welcomed back to the Dark World, you're just sent off and away.

Also you can't actually kill anybody and gain any EXP. Defeated enemy would just be flung away.

There's almost no difference. Enemies run instead of dying. Biggest change is that you defeat the King by putting him to sleep instead of there being a revolution, but the end result of your quest is the same.

It ties into the theme of the game that is intentionally taking the opposite stance of Undertale; your choices don't matter.

It's being called a demo because Toby himself called it that and he doesn't know how he is going to finish the game yet. This is all he has done.

I just beat Jevil, who I guess I'll still spoiler tag. Took me three tries mainly because I dicked around a bit too much on the first two and couldn't figure out his DEVILSKNIFE attack at all, I survived his final onslaught on my first try. Very, very cool fight - I didn't think it was nearly as hard as some people were advertising (nowhere near as hard as Sans imo - more like an Asgore) but a VERY fun fight, lots of personality and really showed off this game's battle system nicely, this actually felt like a genuine RPG fight in a way unlike anything in Undertale. Also really like how the sparing mechanic was handled in this fight, it felt more natural than the typical 'just wait the fight out' battles in most of Undertale

Pretty much. It's absolutely godawful. To this day I have no idea how the main villain was defeated, and I'm not sure if he even was, or if that even matters.

I don't.

I deleted all of my homestuck music, removed all bookmarks related to it and pretty much stopped talking about it or thinking about it. That series is beyond dead to me, and I don't wanna touch anything by Hussie ever again.

After the ending hit I have a feeling I went through the five stages of grief there. At first I believed I was being trolled and the real ending was coming in a few days, then after it didn't I spent days ranting about Hussie online, until I finally gave up and accepted it was never going to have a good ending.

Back to Deltarune, a.k.a. the sequel for the story that actually had a great ending (s).

In terms of difficulty: Undyne-G >= Sans-G > Jevil

So about the game symbolism...

When defeated by depleting his HP, Jevil will mention something about the Queen. And we heard about the Knight several times.
Through the game we went through a chessboard area as well as the omnipresent playing card motifs. Queen and Knight more immediately bring chess to mind, but that area was short and relatively uneventful. Playing cards are more heavily featured, but if we take the final boss as King of Spades, we get very hints of what suit the Queen and Knight (=Knave/Jack?) might be.
We might consider the heart motifs on the Fun Gang's clothes as doubly referring to the suit as well.

...shouldn't Raisel have been there to open the fountain? It takes three but only two of us came.

Anybody got a bad feeling about how the dark world is gonna fare? Clover and the King both kinda seemed to be dropping hints that we were gonna mess things up by going back.

Because we all finished Undertale three years before Deltarune came out, and we had all that time to process and discuss everything. We didn't even know that Deltarune was coming out - or even in development at all - until a day before it dropped. Both knowing that Deltarune exists before even starting Undertale, and being able to play both back to back, sounds like such a different experience then what we went through (not in a bad way, just different).

Hypnotize him while using that other action (which is basically a random result) if you need to

Stock some items. Choco Diamond mega heals Kris, Hearts Donut mega heals Susie. The team heal item from the cake side quest helps a lot

For the carousal move aim for the heads as they don't have hitboxes

Metamorphisis I think its getting out of center than inching to the side as it comes back to hit you (until he upgrades it)

Main pain in the ass movie to me was the Spades Circle but I heard you can deal with it by tanking a hit and chilling in the corner somewhere

You have to use the triple tech move that takes up 50% tp. Have to defend and dodge until you can use it.

If you need HP use piroutte and defend and pray. Eventually you'll tire him and and he can be pacified.

you don't have to tank a hit. Immediately go to the top or bottom and aim yourself between the spades there and the rest will miss you. You only have to move slightly to adjust yourself each cycle. Becomes the easiest attack to dodge once you know it

I used Pirouette instead of Hypnotize and it felt like an actual battle because I had to actually manage my TP and actually make sure I was using the actions to make him more tired instead of just doing whatever, which I think it a subtle but important thing. There was actual urgency in making sure I had enough TP to use Pirouette while defending/using items with Susie and healing/defending with Ralsei.

I didn't realize you could spare him by fighting him until he uses his final attack though.

Yeah it was extremely weird waking up in a post-Undertale 2 world really suddenly

I didn't even think Deltarune was going to be anything real, I thought it was just going to be like a weird teaser that would end shortly after character creation/Toriel waking Kris up

but it turned out to be a demo that was really more like a very short game

It was a weird experience because I was kind of waiting for it to end at some point but it kept going

I really sympathized with Toby's stuff talking about how not being able to tell anyone about what he was working on was driving him crazy

I'm not sure if it's necessary to keep up the spoiler tags thing but I'll do it just in case

First of all, I don't really understand the whole dark world and fountain thing, what it's supposed to mean and if it's even supposed to be real or if it was just some kind of scenario cooked up by Kris and Susie while they were playing around in a supply closet

Assuming I'm supposed to take it at face value though I have sort of a bad feeling about Ralsei? As much as I really don't want to have a bad feeling about Ralsei. Not only did he not assist in opening the fountain, but also I find it notable that he is NOT shown during his retelling of the legend. Yeah, his face wasn't revealed in the game either, but the obfuscation feels like a deliberate choice. Kris and Susie are shown very explicitly, but the prince from the dark is shown cloaked and mysterious. I dunno, it kind of implies that Ralsei maybe isn't the third hero or something. I'm not sure if I'm reading too much into it but it seemed like a deliberate choice

I really can't imagine Ralsei turning out to be a BAD GUY though because that would be kind of a dick move

Asriel was the bad guy in Undertale so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary
