Reportedly they do lose money on items that are in their black friday sales ads. Do you believe this? Are you gonna go shopping this black friday?

Maybe some stuff but I'm betting for the most part they sell a lot of stuff at cost. Maybe lost money actually just means lost profits?

They have some good prices on certain things. But you have to like kill people to get that stuff. Or already be in line for it a week in advance...

Also, I will not. Do like the crowds. I went out once in the last few years for literally one thing. And I only went because the sales person tried to sell it to me, but couldn't because it couldn't be sold until Black Friday. When I got there, I wasn't the only one trying to get it. Like 5 other people. A few left when it was taking to long to find(They couldn't find them). But they eventually did. Then it took a while for them to find a way to actaully sell it. We got it, though. Haha. But I really hate crowds. And trying to fight for something...

Oh, I did go in Vegas once. I almost forgot. I was going to buy this cool watch, but I didn't have much money... I bought cologne, though...

I'm sure they do on some items but the idea is to just get you in the door that way you'll attach a bunch of other items that'll make them money.

Would it still be black Friday if they were in the red?

The things they sell at a loss are things that will be outdated by the end of the year(mostly electronics) so they just want to get rid of them to make room for the updated things, and getting you in the store will likely get you to buy other things (or those worthless protection plans)

Side note, if you go to WalMart on black friday after noon, it will be the most dead you have ever seen a walmart and most of the stuff will still be there.

no they actually do get really good discounts from the vendor. ..... but of course they are losing money because they could be getting the msvp pricing instead of cutting the prices. they get the same amount of profits, but more profits since they sell more... but if they were charging full price they would be making more money for each unit.

think of it this way remember when steam sales use to be good.. but now steam sales are usually 5% to 20% more than what they were back in the day. now they are getting record profits for increasing it up 5%- 20%. man I miss those days when new release on steams sales where 50% off now they are like only 85% off.

85% off is better than 50% off. Did you mean 50% and 85% of the regular price?

Naw, they probably sell it for what they get it for, no loss or gain or a very little gain

Lets do the TVs for example
There isnt much markup on TVs. But how they get around that. The TVs that are being sold are cheaper versions of the TV you are buying
It may just be 1 letter different on the model number, making made specifically just for the Black Friday sale

It's possible that they might lose money on some items but there is no way they lose money overall.

I still see plenty of games discounted for a good deal more than 15% unless you are specifically looking at very very new games. People act like the sales are complete garbage and that is just not the case for the vast majority of titles.

I also think that most long term Steam customers have a very large library at this point so when they throw some slightly older title on sale that customer likely already owns it and therefore doesn't give a crap.

Its called black friday because most companies are in the black for the year at that point so the ones that are having good deals have already profited so much on merchandise that theyre able to sell off the remainder at reduced costs to make way for new merch
