doughnuts aren't really as common as cream buns (and similar derivative products), which apparently also are commonly called doughnuts here regardless of their shape. It's been quite a while since I last had an actual one, so I couldn't really say if I had a preference.

i worked at a donut place when i was a teenager. yeast donuts are definitely more iconic
at first they were my favorite, but by the end i found my tastes had migrated to the plain cake ones one type is just pure sugar bomb, the other is rounder, has a more even taste, and goes with coffee/milk/other food better --- You did indeed stab me in the back. As a person who generally dislikes cake, I much prefer cake donuts. Specifically chocolate cake donuts. I just find them better balanced and to really compliment glaze or icing very well. Whereas a yeast donut typically feels like my mouth is being assaulted by fat and sugar.
