This discussion about which match had both characters you really liked reminded me of BGE2, which put Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario RPG, Goldeneye, and Resident Evil 2 in the same match.

The discussion of Sephiroth clones reminds me of one of my favorite understated moments in contest history was when Sephiroth faced Skies of Arcadia's Ramirez in the Villains Contest.

I feel like having a walking through fire scene is a requirement to being a Sephiroth clone. Hell, I think Ramirez actually has two of those scenes. I don't remember if he actually did the walk when he attacks near the climax of the game.

Also, XD at Ngamer for referring to Incineroar as an "8 foot pro wrestling furry". Actually, Incineroar is only 5'11" according to the Pokedex in Pokemon Sun/Moon.

Ngamer also said "somehow there's like fire going out of his gut". Actually, Incineroar is wearing a belt and he's capable of making fire come out of his belt.

I actually think Captain Toad would outperform Toad honestly. He has his own game which got an expanded version just a few months ago - GameFAQs knows him and he's more likeable than a generic Toad for sure. And if you would vote for a generic Toad, you would recognise him as such in his match pic. Allen corrected the name and it didn't make a difference either way right?

KP is spot on regarding Horizon. It's not abysmal on here at all, in fact it beat Nier Automata twice and looked really good against Persona 5. Aloy was not served well by only her face being in the match pic, and honestly I do think that among people who know them both, D.Va is the more well-liked character. She's very popular with the fanbase and Aloy is fine but kind of generic. GameFAQs is a very "educated" (for lack of a better term) community in terms of game exposure and probably knows both, and went for the liked character over the more standard "representative" character.

On that note, can we please kill the "GameFAQs doesn't play (new) games anymore" meme, there are so many polls to the contrary. As of last year 94% of the site plays at least one game a week, 95% bought a game last year, and 73% bought at least five games that year.

I still think Resident Evil is doing well, DK is just strong now. Doesn't help that Leon is the most Nintendo-associated RE character by far. Also surprised Master Chief was not listed as a disappointing showing.

The 2010s have steadily gained, at the expense of the 2000s. The 90s have stayed rock solid. This is actually a big part of why I really want to see GotD 2, as there will be some strong games, and no 90s proxy (hello Majora's Mask) to take the whole thing.

Really good Smash discussion guys, liking it a lot. Two minor corrections:

-Ike's games sold better than Marth's, but are otherwise at the bottom of the totem pole. It speaks to how much people love him that he is the most popular FE character.
-Isaac is only silent in the first game (and even in that he had like two lines I think).

Really liked the more general chat by the way. I think Nintendo actually have one of the most progressive DLC policies except for FE - Xenoblade 2 has possibly the best season pass I've seen I think. Also KP speaking the truth on Bethesda.

Well, it's hard to displace what people consider to be "classics," regardless of how good they are, because you need an overwhelming number of people to consider a new game to be superior to a classic, and that's tough in a place like this. We're not a "flavor of the month" website.

Hah, I've definitely had that conversation with people who freak out when you ask them about their favorite things. Hell, here are five of my favorite games, thought of in about 30 seconds:

If I put way more thought into that list I'd probably be able to narrow it down to something more accurate, but that alone tells you a lot about my tastes.

What we need is a GIF of the end of the fight in Rocky 2 with Phoenix as Rocky and Ike as Apollo, especially since Apollo with the American flag tights represents Ike dominating in North America and still losing.

I've been thinking of pic factor, and I realized I really don't like these KH pics. Sora, Riku and Aqua are all kind of ugly.

I don't know why, I feel like this 3D realistic FF-style coupled with the childish style of KH doesn't work. Sora is pretty unappealing. It's like it hit an uncanny valley or something. I haven't played any KH game but the style from KH1 looks much better.

Maybe it's influencing the results? I know I voted Bayonetta because she looked much more appealing than Riku. And I voted Aqua because Quiet looked horrible, but Aqua wasn't much better. I feel like Kos-Mos is about to wreck her.

Riku looked really weird. I thought Sora looked okay.

It's finally happened for the first time this contest. Double voting has now changed the winner of a match.

Without the double voting, Phoenix Wright would have lost by 28 votes to Ike. Even then, the match becomes so close that Board 8 would have attempted to push for Phoenix at the end of the match and he probably still wins anyways.

We came pretty close just one day earlier when Red would have beaten Sora by only 58 votes without the double voting in place for registered users. So that match didn't have the overall winner changed by this new system.

It's notable that Draven and Sans lost even harder among anonymous voters than registered ones, probably because the latter were more likely to know who they were because of Draven and Undertale's contest victories.

I'm not a huge Chrono Trigger fan compared to a lot of people on the board, but I've always said this about it: It doesn't do anything the best, but it does everything well.

I never played a wide array of games, even when I was younger, at least not compared to the big numbers some people on B8 have played. I replayed games like crazy. It was tons of fun to replay stuff like DKC2 or S3&K and just gradually get better at speeding through the levels.
