I realize I sound like Captain Hindsight posting this now, but...

I got to the Oracle topic just before lockdown to adjust my picks, and I expected the guesses entered today would be roughly 50/50. Maybe trending slightly to Ocelot but not by more than a couple points. Instead I saw something like 20 straight posts of "Ocelot 55%" or 56% or 57% and I just didn't get it.

This again, but for Leon!

(not to say I knew he would lose, I certainly didn't, but felt like it would be within a couple points either way while I think the Oracle consensus will be 55+)

Yeah, DK is really going apeshit on this match now. Leon tried to keep the match close for 10 minutes with bracket voting, but DK is dropping bananas everywhere.

I hoping for a Leon comeback, but that might as well be impossible now with this lead already.

Ouch at yoblazer getting burned by Final Fantasy protagonists. Well, I didn't fall into the Zidane/Noctis trap and called those matches correctly, but I did end up getting Tidus/DK wrong.

I also called Garrus correctly too, but got Cecil wrong. I picked Cecil because Crash literally had only one contest win in 1v1 contests and that was in 2002 against a bad fodder opponent. Crash also won a match in 2013, but that was 3-ways in a match with the other 2 characters being fodder.

I would agree with KP that Indie games have never done well here. Indie games have 2 major things going against them on this site.

Indie games have low playrates as a result not being advertised to the same level that we would normally see from AAA games (Indie games are generally limited to Indie game montages in E3 press conferences), so Indie games have an serious uphill battle to get noticed by the site. The other problem with Indie games is that there are so many of them out there that it's really difficult for a single Indie game to get a decent playrate on this site.

Regarding Dedede/Ocelot, I don't think the Smash Direct had any effect on the match after the Smash Direct ended. There was a drop off in votes being submitted while the Smash Direct was being shown, but then there was a brief spike in votes for about 20 minutes after the Direct ended.

But the aftermath of the Smash Direct did not appear to have any effect on how people were voting in the Dedede/Ocelot match.

I didn't have a chance to mention this on the Show, but the one good thing to come out of Draven was all the buttadjectives. They never fail to make me laugh.

Last place in the final X-Stats has to be either Draven or Cayde-6. I'd probably lean towards Draven right now as the weakest character between those two.

Regarding the name controversy with Ren/Joker:

I picked Joker despite being listed as Ren in the bracket because I assumed that the name issue would be resolved before the match took place, and SB ended up changing the name to Joker later on. Even then, it still wasn't enough to get past Claire.

I totally agree with yo on the Captain Toad controversy. There's no reason for "Toad" to have been his shorthand name, especially when the word Captain has an official abbreviation.

Besides, Toad would have been unbeatable given that he was in the news relatively recently.

Using Ammy's 2010 number, Draven would be worth 6.71% on 2010 Link.

Sandal was the last place character in 2010, and he would get 68.89% on this Draven.

I never did xstats calcs but I assume you just translate proportions into one another right?

So like pick whatever ammy does on Link and divide by 7.

Cayde-6 is probably fortunate that Mario ended up on the other side of the bracket, because Bowser > Ness into Mario > Bowser and then probably Link > Mario would have been hilarious.

yoblazer brought up that favorite Valentine poll we had a few years ago. I think Jill winning that poll wasn't entirely on Vincent here. The poll question can influence things here and the timing of that poll also matters. And with that poll, it happened on Valentine's Day, so there's a context aspect to that poll which benefits the female characters in the poll.
