But anyway, while I still lurk on B8 quite a bit, I don't really play video games much anymore. While I'm certainly busier than I was in high school (where I did most of my video game playing) these days, it wouldn't exactly be accurate to say that I have no time to play video games. I just don't really feel the desire to. The last system I bought was the Wii U for Smash 4, and the last new game I bought was probably the most recent Phoenix Wright game.

But anyway, people were hyping Monika, and I'd never heard of her or Doki Doki Literature Club before, so after learning that the game was free and took approximately 4 hours to beat I decided I'd give it a try. I was aware that the game was apparently a "psychological horror" game, but I didn't really know any more details than that. Also, I figured with it being around Halloween, now would be as good a time as any to play it.

I guess as far as I'll discuss the plot for now, as there's not much new to discuss about the game at this point, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. I can't say I'm a huge fan of horror games, but the one I often hear this compared to is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, due to the meta nature of the horror. I have played Eternal Darkness before, and if I had to recommend one horror game, I'd still pick that one, as it's a much fuller game and it actually has gameplay and stuff, but I do appreciate the type meta-horror in both and that feeling when something happens and you're like, "Wait a minute, was that supposed to happen or is my game broken?"

So I guess in conclusion, although Monika fell terribly flat in this contest, thanks for hyping her, B8, so that I would give DDLC a try. It was a little too short for me to call it a truly great game, but it was a pretty enjoyable experience.

And after going through all the cutscenes and getting the good ending, I can safely say that in spite of being my least favorite girl at the start, Natsuki is the best girl in the game. That is all.

I guess that is the obvious answer, but probably the end of Act 1. I can't say that it exactly caught me by surprise or anything given all the warnings the game gives you, but I guess the game has a way of making sure that the scene still leaves an impression on you.

Other than that, after doing some research, I found out out people have decoded information in all the character files and found these hidden easter eggs. Yuri's is apparently a base 64 code that gives a six page short story when you decode it. A few days after finishing the game I think this story is actually one of the things that I'm left thinking about the most.

Glad you enjoyed it. I think my favorite is still Yuri but Natsuki is really great, an example of actually well executed tsundere.

I guess Monika's theory about Natsuki being malnourished was hogwash.

So just out of curiosity, why was it that Monika was thought to have rally potential? Is the DDLC subreddit really active or something? The game itself is over a year old and I didn't really see any hype on B8 prior to the release of the bracket. I know this is the type of thing where hindsight is 20/20, but still...

I didn't think the game had viral rally strength like undertale- I had her losing in the first round.

The argument was that, similar to undertale, the fourth wall breaking elements of the game would inspire enough fanaticism to get players to care enough to vote

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.
