Pokemon has a neverending story where the protagonist, instead of learning from his loses and training to become stronger and win the tournament next year, gives up, goes to another region to start over with new pokemon, and dumps all of his old pokemon on Professor Oak.

It's like a fake reboot system.

It's meant so people outgrow the show eventually, stop watching, and are replaced by new kiddies.

It's a viable system fiancially, but it could be done much better, like in Digimon and Yugioh, where they actually end the main story and replace the cast when a season ends.

Ash losing by itself is not the problem, Ash losing because of hax is
Kanto had Charizard not listening, Sinnoh had LOL LEGENDARIES, Unova was probably the worst with losing a 5vs6 Pokemon fight, and Kalos had that horrible Ash-Greninjna losing even with massive type advantage and everything going in Ash favor, inculding even being "The last regular Pokemon League" before we went into the terrible shitfest that is Sun and Moon anime
Losing to Harrison in Johto and Tyson in Hoenn were fine, though (even with the gimmicks of Gen 3 Pokemon and Meowth in boots)

I always liked Ash. I always saw him as a cool trainer when I was a kid.

One time, I was in Kindergarden and secretly stole one of the foamy pieces we used to play with since it resembled a Gym badge and brought it to my house so I could pretend I "earned" it. A day or so later, the teacher called my parents to see if I knew where it was and I smiled at them and said 'Yes'.

My biggest shock was finding out the anime was still relevant past the 3rd Gen (I stopped watching after the Johto League), especially within the ones who started out with the first season and still watched it when already grown up. The show was always supposed to be aimed towards children, so it didn't make sense to me that older people complained about it. I tried giving it a shot (while also bringing my brother up with me), watching some random XYZ episodes, namely Frogadier's and Flabb's, and it was nice but not really enough to hook me up like any other show would.

The only thing I was a fan of was Ash vs. Paul when I watched it on Youtube. That thing was one of the most epic things I had seen in any anime.

When I had the chance to finally replay Pokmon for the first time in 15 years, I tried giving the anime a shot starting with the first season, and even when I had a rush of nostalgia, I still found it a little too kiddy and random, so I stopped. The only thing I'm interested in is the Mewtwo movie (haven't watched that thing in forever now).

Well, having peaked at #3 on the leaderboard wasn't bad at all. Stayed for a couple of days there too.

My record in this contest is top 300~, two days ago
Currently in the top 433, but I got all matches right today so hopefully I will be able to get a new record of top 200~ because it seems like Sora>Red was a pretty popular pick

I wished Ash did a better job in trying to catch them all. One of my favourite part in Black/White was that he had a rotating team, though even that quickly turned into Pikachu/Starters/Scraggy + 1 rotating Pokemon.

I understand giving them enough screen time might be an issue, but having 12-15 Pokemon could work, especially if you make a couple already strong (like Snorlax) so they don't need as much training and only need to show up every now and then in non-gym/league episodes.

They need to have an arc where Ash wins because of BS. That way it mixes up what weve gone through so many times, but also gives him a reason to go to another League, to prove to himself and everybody that he can win without the benefit of a fluke.

The anime is very..inconsistent
There are some episodes that I would recommend to every (like the Ash vs Paul you mentioned, but most Paul episodes can work as well) and some of them are super damn kiddy that it hurt me to watch them
Thing is, I usually watched them will doing something else, most of the time Pokemon-related like soft resetting for a good nature legendary, or filling the dex, or hunting for a shiny or something like that, hatching eggs etc
So it didn't really feel like a waste of time

But the Sun and Moon anime? no thank you
