I'm up to the third gym and I still feel like I'm waiting for the actual game to "start". There aren't any wild battles, so the game feels oddly empty and desolate.

Why are people upset over wild battles being removed? Did you actually enjoy running into and beating up Rattata over and over again?

Remember how the now super old FireRed and LeafGreen had abilities, hold items, and the extra Sevii Islands?

You know how PoLeGo does not have any of those things?

How is a Switch game worse than a GBA game? Granted, plenty of GBA games I'd still play today, but if something is a remake, I'd hardly want it to be worse than what's been out there and in high quantity for ages

Game Freak is pretty much phoning it in at this point.

They've been pretty open about this being a streamlined back to basics title that's for beginners, lapsed Pokemon players and people who play Pokemon Go.

Maybe a change in the executive director will point the upcoming generation towards a good direction.

It's still a series near and dear to my heart but the dev's been frequently squandering potential. Seeing the recent Detective Pikachu game made me feel so much more could be done with the series outside the spin-offs that they don't do anymore for some reason. (I freaking loved the spin-offs) And no, I don't count PoLeGo as a spin-off. It's merely a de-evolution of a main game. Spin-off would be something like Conquest or Trozei or Rangers

The concept art for this one's quite cute, and I love the girl trainer's designs. But be careful of what you wish for. You might get something bad like PoGo's character customization

I also don't get why people want wild battles. I always used repels so I don't have to waste my time getting into random battles every 5 seconds. So annoying.

The first quote so hard. Having the pokemon on the field is so much more immersive. And your whole team gets exp when you catch them so its the same grinding, just more streamlined. It's pretty neato throwing the pokeball at the Pokemon too, i dont even care about not battling them. But hey people like to complain about things even though it's been stated day 1 what this game will be.

I heard that this game was made because Gen 8 was going to take some time to finish and Nintendo wanted a Pokemon game on the Switch ASAP.

The way they advertised the game, I'm pretty sure it's basically a pokemon go for people that don't want to go outside.

Even if that is the exact figure you're still talking about 6-7 million people who would.

With stuff like Pokmon Go and Detective Pikachu the franchise hasn't had this much public exposure for a long time. A casualized game that focuses entirely on what makes most people nostalgic for the franchise makes sense.

Random encounters can be frustrating from a gameplay perspective, but they served a greater purpose in populating the world with pokemon and making it feel like they were everywhere.

This. I hated walking through grass or God forbid a cave/surfing on water where you can encounter a wild battle anywhere. Repels were a necessity for me.

Repels are better than not having random encounters at all, because repels follow the world's logic and doesn't break the idea that there are pokemon in the bushes and caves all around you. No random encounters at all just feels empty.

I've always liked classic turn-based RPGs so they never bothered me. If you didn't like them you had repels

It's preferable to having literally nothing to do in the overworld

You can spot Pokmon in the overworld and run up to them and catch them. You can ride around on your Pokmon and have them follow you too. I believe you can re-fight trainers but I'm not too sure of that.

This isn't a game where people play it because they love the battle system. Really it's more about the most basic part of simply collecting and interacting with the Pokmon.

Pokmon Let's Go looks like it can be completely played and enjoyed by people who have never even played a video game before. There's really not many games on the market like that these days. I get why people are disappointed but if that's the case you probably aren't the sort of person this game is designed for. That's what the 2019 Pokmon game is for.

As a kid I hated them but as someone who understands Pokemon now, you won't really have a fighting chance if you don't level up through them.
