Started Symphony of the Night last night. Only played the opening sequence (which was pretty darn cool) and up to the point where Alucard loses all his gear, but it's pretty fun so far. Probably gonna play some more here in a bit.

Nope, the most I've ever played of the series is 30-something minutes of Super Castlevania IV.

Beat my first boss, which was a tandem boss with a gargoyle and some lizard dude. I actually died once because I kept forgetting to use my shield.

SotN is pretty good. I still think all the DS ones are better, I dont like how much knockback there is when Alucard gets hit and the menus is kind of annoying to navigate, but every metroidvania is some degree of enjoyable.

Well, I'll probably ditch it once I get better equipment and get better at the game.

But yeah, it is kind of ridiculous how much Alucard gets knocked back when he gets hit, and he barely has any invincibility frames as you recover, to boot, which is kind of lame. The menus do seem like they'll be a hassle later on, but I barely have anything at the moment.

Initially I had Pikachu and Zelda going on a tear and making it to like the semis, but I bailed out on that

Now I just have Crono winning the contest 'lol'

I did dumb things to avoid rematches, so I have Ganon > Pikachu and Alucard > Bowser right now. I think the only rematch I've got in the entire bracket is Snake/Mario.

I suppose I could avoid that, too, by having Cloud beat Mario, although then I'd still have Link/Snake or Link/Cloud twice.

My second chance bracket is currently going nearly all-in on Zelda Fear.

Yeah, the rematch thing definitely had be questioning my picks, especially because the only result I ever had flipped in a rematch was Crono > Link in the grand finals, but that's also really stupid so who knows.

so i just completed the free day in ToCS Chapter 4.

The plot sped up slightly in chapter 3, which was kinda nice, but then whoa. The game was like "...REVEAL..." and I was like "Yeah I'm down for a reveal" and then the game was like "nope" and I'm like "SCREW YOU GAME" and then the game was like "PSYCHE!" and I'm like awwww yeah. Emma continues to be the most interesting non-Rean character. Also, the protagonist is interesting again, which is really nice after Ao/Zero. Free-time events also seem to be improving in quality, or maybe I'm just getting more invested in the characters. Either way, I look forward to them more, even if they're still roughly half as long as they should be.

Gameplay-wise, it's getting really annoying that the quartz bonuses are flat and not percentage-based. +10 to a stat that's already 600 is kinda meh. Don't really have much to add here, except that horses are awesome and I miss them already.

(p.s. is it bad that I literally sing "Don't be defeated by a friend" during the chorus of "Don't be defeated by a friend"?)

Chapter 4 is where I think Cold Steel starts to really get going. And it almost never stops from here.

Nah, IIRC, you're right that they do improve as the game goes on. I think CS2 is more even about it but it's been a bit since I postponed my replays when the PS4 announcement came.

Quartz in this game are pretty much all about arts/miscellaneous effects. If you have the patience to farm sepith like me you can basically get the best of both worlds by getting a fair amount of the (R) version of the arts quartz which'll give you a stat bonus with it.

I still actually need to go back and do the postgame stuff... I burnt myself out because I always make sure to read all of the NPC dialogue (of which theres a ton!). Its a really good game though, and it seems like its possibly overtaken VIII as the entry with the broadest appeal (my favorites still VII, but that ones kinda divisive).

Black Friday haul this year was pretty minimal. Picked up DBZ Fighterz and a couple blu-ray movies and thats it. Didnt see a ton that really caught my eye as far as HOT DEALZ go.
