Well I didn't see this coming at the beginning of the contest. Never would I have expected one of my favourites to get to the final, much less win. Truly this was a perfect storm of happenstances to achieve this outcome. Although gauging the fallout shows exactly why this never happens, ha.

This is never being repeated, so I guess my aim for next year becomes getting a XIV rep in, since currently none are guaranteed a spot, and achieving a respectable finish, although it'll be difficult with Y'shtola booted. All aboard the Nero train woo woo.

First and foremost, I want to give a BIG fucking thank you to EVERY person that hopped onboard the Year of FFXIII train this year. After we got Vanille/Lightning to the top five last year, only for both to go out back-to-back, it was devastating. But I vowed I was gonna be back, bigger and badder than ever. And it happened. It ACTUALLY happened. So to Roba, Swordz, Kateee, Turus, MI, Lopen...thank you for helping to keep this train driving into the station. And for Stifled, Paul, Bubu, and ESPECIALLY Luis (as someone who has to watch Terra get crapped on regularly, I'm really glad you got a victory), congrats on your girl reigning supreme!

Next, to ANYONE who saved FFXIII at all this year, out of camaraderie, out of spite, out of strategy, out of genuine respect for the characters...thank you. EVERY vote mattered this year. This whole journey started with Chocolina just barely scraping through the boot rounds. But she made it. As did the whole eight-person crew. Without that initial success, I KNOW some of our most dedicated savers would've felt this whole plan was just another failed Inviso attempt to get some kind of momentum going. But we got there. We got the whole crew through the boot rounds. We got the whole playable cast to the top fifty. We got FOUR characters into the top 14 and would've done even better if not for a lawyering. We got three in the top ten, and now, FFXIII finally has a championship to its name. That is not possible without EVERY single vote the game received over the course of ninety-nine rounds. There are just too many of you to thank individually. But know that I am EXTREMELY grateful.

Next year, I will definitely not be trying to replicate the same feat. I know it's annoying to see people win multiple times in a row. I'm gonna try to push my favorites through the boot rounds, sure, because who knows how I'll be feeling by the time Contest XXII rolls around. But next year? It's all about helping out the people who made this victory possible. We might not WIN, but I'll be trying my damnedest to help out. I'm just so happy right now. Thank you all one more time! Yeah definitely no hard feelings about Cid losing here.

Cid was on a journey of redemption after eating a bad boot and the general collapse of the FFIV saverbase following War and Shoe's exits from the game. Just getting FFIV back into the finals feels like a huge accomplishment.

I had set a goal of top 20 and lefty and I felt pretty sure we were gonna lose him by 15 and we were basically okay with that. But a few more of you decided you liked Cid and decided to help. And then certainly he wasn't going to make top 10. But then oh hey there go bane and shad deciding to help. Never ever would have called that. Then okay top 10 is here but we're gonna lose any day now right. Ok how on earth did we make top 5? It just kept snowballing and then all of a sudden here we are in the finals being blamed for creating such a lame finale!

Well I didn't think it was lame, I thought it was awesome to have a finale with no one from the PSX/PS2 era for once. Fang's not my favorite XIII - ok she's actually one of my least favorite XIIIs. But its cool that my favorite FF finally got a winner!

I figured I was going to be snubbed from acknowledgement due to my disdain for Fang winning but hey right on I guess glad to help support the other characters.

Really I would've supported anyone from FFXIII over Cid in the final but Fang and Hope probably. Fang I don't really dislike or anything and would've voted her over a bunch of bad characters but not really exciting. On the fence if I would've preferred her to win over Kefka.

But yeah I'm pretty sure Lightning could win against a lot of characters these days I think most of the haters have bailed on this contest. I guess it's possible they'd come out of the woodwork for the final but *shrug

It's funny because I'm pretty sure I saved Fang a few times in earlier rounds because I do actually genuinely like her, she's my favorite XIII character. I just was skeeved off a bit from the whole Year of XIII thing and Cid P popped out and I was like "Oh shit that's super dope he's here, well he'll never get here again let me contribute." Wish he could have taken it all but at least he'll still always have his name listed.

Donkey Kong also put up a formidable fight, props to him and his savers.

Nah, while it's still a complete mystery to me there actually are a lot of people with fairly positive feelings on Fang that I've noticed even just among casual SMFFFCers.

I don't think the user pandering is at all necessary for Fang here, which is part of the reason I don't enjoy people making it about themselves as I find insulting to both sides: Cid P & Fang fans.

I'm a bit worried @Inviso might take my words too seriously because of his "damned if you do damned if you don't" post a few days ago so I will just be serious for a moment: I don't care if you take these contests on some personal level, you have a different take on the contests, whatever suit yourself and if I disagree well fuck me. I'll make snarky posts dissenting but you do you, you're hardly alone.

So the least votes in the finals since the abysmal blowout that was Contest XII; and every other contest since has had more votes in the end round.

Just a bad all around final, there was nothing redeeming about this because of how polarizing it was to see. Way too user-centric and unnatural. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around this having been the final of this contest. It's really too bad Lightning had that happen, because as it turns out I think this contest was hers to lose. There's little chance she wouldn't have ended up the winner I think, and it's unfortunate it didn't happen because I agree this will hamper her ability to win in the future now. Though I'm not a fan at all myself, having not played XIII still, it would have been nice to get that victory out of the way here when it was so clear cut. Fang got to run into a finals with total apathy while Lightning was put into two finals against unstoppable trains. I'm still a bit annoyed with that situation; not with Eddv for making a mistake, because those happen. More with the FBike/Janus withholding of info maliciously. The blame is squarely on them for this final happening imo.

But yeah, sure. Congrats to someone, I guess?
