Even hyenas, the stereotypical lazy scavenger, do a lot of hunting. T-Rex would undoubtedly have done both, the only question seems to be how much it did one vs. the other. The jaws of a tyrannosaurus are similar in proportion to a pitbull, it's body was like that of a chicken, and its banana-like teeth were undoubtedly designed for crushing bone. Yet people still look at it and cry scavenger. They were just trying to rationalize the tiny arms but, as the head and jaws grew more massive, the arms became less important and receded. While I don't doubt the T-Rex wasn't above eating something it wanders accross, I think that it mostly got it's food by going out and killing it. --- Time is a funny thing.
