they base it off of the teeth designed to destroy bone and the oversized sinus cavity. they overlook the jaw strength and sheer size though.

Not at all. It might've been a bit lethargic, but look at its prey. I don't think hadrosaurs exactly had the grace of a gazelle.

They literally found a fossil with a T-Rex tooth lodged in it where the bone had grown around. That's as definitive as proof gets that T-Rex was hunting live prey.

In any case, there aren't a lot of animals that make a living purely from scavenging. Even hyenas, the stereotypical lazy scavenger, do a lot of hunting. T-Rex would undoubtedly have done both, the only question seems to be how much it did one vs. the other.

And, while we're on the subject: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/dinosaurs-art-paleoartists-mistakes
It's an article about the difficulties of imagining what an extinct animal would have looked like based solely on fossil evidence.

The scavenger theory is hilarious.

The jaws of a tyrannosaurus are similar in proportion to a pitbull, it's body was like that of a chicken, and its banana-like teeth were undoubtedly designed for crushing bone. Yet people still look at it and cry scavenger.

If gorillas were extinct, these same people would look at gorilla skeletons and claim that they were sloth-like creatures incapable of adequately defending themselves.

Why would it bother people for Tyrannosaurs to be scavengers, or even partly scavengers?

Sure you could, if the things you're scavenging are large and/or plentiful enough.

Tbh though, I don't think such mass could be sustained by just scavenging

Pretty sure this theory was thrown out the window years ago. They were just trying to rationalize the tiny arms but, as the head and jaws grew more massive, the arms became less important and receded. It takes a lot of fuel to run the body of a Sexual Tyrannosaurus and being primary scavengers would not have been an effective evolutionary strategy.

Primarily scavengers have typically been smaller, pack animals. While I don't doubt the T-Rex wasn't above eating something it wanders accross, I think that it mostly got it's food by going out and killing it.
