Yeah, if this was a generic anime that someone recommended as "one of the best ever", I'd think they were out of their mind - but it's a (seemingly) bid budget animated adaption of an ancient video game series that has no right being made in 2017. I still can't believe this exists, and that might be the main reason I fucking love it.

"Better writer", it's Warren fucking Ellis.

i dunno who he is but that doesn't change the fact that this show has a LOT more exposition than it needs. also that vamp chick has bitched about manchildren, animals, and crazy old men at least 15 times in the last 3 episodes i watched. it's her entire character. that's not good writing.

like i said, the show has its moments but there's a lot that falls flat. some of that would have been helped by better voice actors/voice direction. some of it is just boring.

The last 2 episodes is when they forget it's an adaptation of CV3 and not SotN. They also try too hard at twisting the lore, and then there is Hector.

Yeah I mean it hasn't been straight since episode 1. And then there's stuff concerning the whole universe and not just one game. Like, the basics. And don't forget the SotN worship. They didn't leave much if they do a SotN adaptation.

I'm guessing you watch a ton of anime and not a lot of live-action television? The show is very toned down from what I consider the normally over-the-top goofiness of anime voice acting, and I think a lot of that has to do with casting excellent stage and screen performers. You listed three very successful actors as ones you don't like, and I think the commonality is that they don't hamfist the performances like most anime. At least for me, someone who has tried countless times to enjoy anime and found that, most of the time, the story can't outwrite the acting. I know this isn't true anime, but it does have an eastern influence, and it's one of the rare shows of its nature I found at all enjoyable because the performances weren't beating my head in with a ballpeen hammer approach rather than a scalpel approach.

It's cool if you just enjoy a different style of television. Try as I might, I have difficulty enjoying that anime style in general. I think it's because I've been reared in western television and so that style resonates the most.

The Diddy Kong Racing movie didn't include Darkwater Beach and therefore it is clearly the worst musical adaptation of a video game in 2023 and that includes the utterly atrocious Luigi's Mansion production made by the creators of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

are you people really going to sit there and tell me i needed to be beat over the head with the background of hector and what'shisface for three episodes and to have the vampire chick harp on and on for the first half of season 2 about how unhappy she is with everyone in the castle but herself?

also i never said i wasn't enjoying it, i've actually told someone else in this topic to watch it because it's still a good time despite my issues with it.

did ltm's drama infect everyone else in this thread or what

well when i tried watching i made a topic asking if there was anything i was missing - i also had issues with the voice-acting and just generally how seriously the show were taking an inherently camp concept - and i thought i was in the twilight zone with how everyone thought i was trolling

it was utterly bizarre and made me not really want to post about stuff like this. also made me not want to continue watching.

s1 was fine, but felt more like an opening to a story instead of a full one. Also the monster designs were dull.. They got better in s2.

Season2 was great, but suffered a bit from the forced doubled length here and there.

Yeah at first I was amazed that they included CoD. Isaac was even more interesting than in the game. But then Hector was treated pretty much like a b****, then I was it's OK, he's got a plan. Maybe he's not quite the combatant yet, but he's smart. Nope, he literally ended like Carmilla's b****, dragged around and everything, with not an ounce of fight in him.

Personal view s1 was v good but held back by its length and somewhat underwhelming conclusion

S2 was kinda funky but I enjoyed it. writing wasn't the best but it made the conclusion (well, more like the prelude to the conclusion) that much more satisfying so it's all good

Iv only seen the beginning scene in the tavern where some dudes ranted about the Belmonts and then picked a fight with drunk Trevor, but it sucked ass. It definitely made me not interested in seeing the rest of the show. Hard agree with all of the early posts about about how cringey everything is and how bad and mumbley the voice acting is.

It could definitely get better though. To the people that think the show was awesome, did you think it did improve later on or did you think the tavern scene was good too?
