I recently took about a 20,000 cut in my annual pay to go to a much easier job. No more back breaking work, no more stress, etc...

I know most people wouldn't take such a drastic cut to their pay, but what about you?

I made (with mandatory overtime) about 20k more than I'm making at my current job. I'd take another 20k cut if there was an easier jib that was just as interesting.

Took a 40k paycut (110k to 70k) to get off the road so much so I could be home with my kids. Maybe when they're older I'll go after that money again but for now it's the right move and I'm happy.

My job isn't necessarily "easy" per se, like in a cognitive sense, but being virtually zero-stress and zero-pressure it's hard to imagine what an easier job that's worth any kind of pay cut looks like. It would almost have to be literally getting paid to go about my day doing whatever I would do in my free time.

I can ride disability for more than half of what I make at my current job. Thinking about doing that and then moving into a low-income apartment. Zero stress and doing what I want to do every day versus all the stress and working. Plus, I can do that overseas. The only socialism I care for.

$0

I'm not sure how it could get easier unless I got paid to do nothing

Usually you get a pay bump the easier your job is. To the more laborious you're probably making aroumd or above minimum wage anyway.

The job I quit made everybody take a pay cut while dramatically increasing responsibilities. They wanted people fresh out of high school to handle multinational corporate telecommunications support for $10 an hour, with no raises, vapor bonuses thanks to an eternally moving goalpost, and the ability to get fired for HR screwing up manager-approved paid vacation.
If I had taken a $20k pay cut, I would have made more money selling used phone screen protectors on ebay.

I have a single 1 day quit caveat that my wife understands and agrees with: If they ever attempt to make me take a pay cut. Im paid what I am because its what Im worth. They know they cant hire someone off the street to replace me. That doesnt mean they cant, but it isnt that easy.

My last company actually did pull that bullshit with people, but not me.

Good on the both of you. It's easier to fight against company abuse when you're not doing it by your lonesome.

It really depends on the type of work. Like over here, the shittier the job is, the more it's likely to pay because no one wants to do those jobs.

Like I was making about 100k at my last job, but the work was really fucking shitty and most people didn't last long because of the shittiness.

Also I would take like a 25k cut for a job if it had very little stress or something I was more interested in. But my current job isn't so bad right now.
