I think it's the worst in the franchise, but I still played the shit out of it when it was out and loved it the whole time. Even if there was a big backlash, it tried to be fun and exciting and certainly had hype. On top of that, I think the game still tried to let players have "fun moments," even if unintentionally. Maybe it's because they're developed by Namco, but Smash 4 and Ultimate work even harder than Brawl did to remove those "fun moments." What I mostly mean by that is that the newer games revolve around players just doing stuff at their opponents (neutral game). The other games have more tug-of-war battles through grabs, combos, and even positioning and projectile play. In Melee, almost every character is fun to play - even if they're not fun to play against. In Brawl, most characters have something fun about them. In Ultimate, almost every character just has a neutral game with varying finishers. Smash 4 and Ultimate even have worse single-player modes, really capturing their players into the stock 'fighting' game experience I think even worse is going from Brawl to PM to Smash 4. When you see what players can do with the Brawl engine, it's kind of sad how limited newer smash games are.
