6th grade, just woke up. Saw it on mom's tv as I was passing by her room to take shower before school.

Was all everyone talked about that day. Teachers were silent or crying. Most of us kids had no idea what the fuck was going on, or thought it wasn't real.

Late morning, just before noon.

I was off from work that day, and I heard a special report about it on the radio in my dad's truck.

I was in my first semester of junior college, but was in bed at home when my dad called and woke me up saying to turn on the TV. I did and then when I went to class, although it was in a rural town several states away, all classes were cancelled that day because officials were worried something similar would happen there.

Tbh, I barely remember off the top of my head - this was 18 years ago, and I didn't know anybody in the area at the time.

Let's see... 9/11 was a Tuesday afternoon in the second week of September... and in 2001 I was 15... so I probably would've been at school.

Taking the time difference into account i was home asleep in australia when it happened it wasnt till the next morning at 8:45 am whilst half asleep in the shower when i heard on the radio that two planes had struck the twin towers i remember at the time that i laughed but i only did so because starfm 96.1 usually had a snippet from a comedian on at that time of the morning, it wasnt till i bought the advertiser newspaper that i realised that something terrible had happened and that it would result in a war.

On the way to school, it was a good distance from home. Soon as we heard it on the radio, just turned around and made the drive back home. I remember being butthurt at the situation and wishing I could be at school with friends during that event. So I decided to go back to sleep, while the tvs pretty much stayed on that channel at our house.

I went to school the next day all grumpy as if it was my friends fault I didnt get dropped off at school. Memorable day because my stepdad decided he wasnt going to retire from the Air Force any time soon after that, which led to our family moving a few states between then and now.

School. I believe it was just the 2nd week of school and it was my senior year in High School.

The odd thing was that when I'm getting ready in the morning for school, I would usually have the TV on. But oddly enough on that day, I didn't turn it on and I don't quite remember why. I don't think I was running late or anything either.

Then I got to school and my first period class was a History class. The teacher already had the TV on and he had a grim look on his face. And I'll be honest. I didn't realize that it was such a big deal at the time. At least not until the 3rd plane hit the Pentagon. That's when people started saying other stuff like "Oh ****, what if they hit Los Angeles?"

In every single one of my classes, we did nothing. We all had the TV on and we just sat there... watching the news reporters repeat the story over and over. Then when my mom picked me up from school we talked about it some more.

The following day at school, I think it was more or less back to normal, just like that.

Three stories: mine, and two friends.

I had gotten home from work and just finished watching WWF Raw, and decided to play some Perfect Dark. However, my VCR (to which I had my N64 hooked up) didn't have an "Input" button on the remote, so I always had to turn to channel 2 and then go backwards to the A/V channel. So I turn it to channel 2 (which is the local CBS affiliate).

And there's the World Trade Center burning. I remember thinking it was a rather odd fire patten, then I heard one of the anchors talking about how a plane had hit the building. I also remember them wondering just how a pilot could not notice that they were flying toward a building. And just about then....another plane flies into the second tower.

I watched as the news reports flowed in; the Pentagon being attacked, a plane crashing in Pennsylvania (which I thought for a moment could have been Air Force One). And when the first tower came down...for those of us in my generation, you will understand the impact it had to hear DAN RATHER at a loss for words. He couldn't get anything out for about ten seconds.

Friend one was in college, living off-campus with three roommates. He was the only one who didn't have any classes or work that day, and had volunteered to go pay the phone bill. He was walking down the road (no car) and noticed that there weren't many people on the road, but didn't think anything of it. He was fiddling with his radio Walkman as he crossed the street, and he said the first thing he heard when it came on was " -- have confirmed that it was not a nuclear attack" and he just stopped dead in the middle of the road for a minute.

Friend two and his wife were getting ready to take their delayed honeymoon to England, and his sister, who was a flight attendent, was going to take them to the airport so they didn't have to pay parking fees. They were rushing around trying to finish getting ready when she knocks on the door, and my friend is like "Okay, we're good to go." And she says "You're not going anywhere. Two planes hit the World Trade Center, the FAA's grounded everything."

In school between classes I was standing in the hall between the art and science room and two girls came running up and told me. Classes basically were suspended and we could go in the library and watch coverage.

Oh yeah, one teacher was in tears because her husband was a pilot and she couldn't get in touch with him.

I was in high school, at the start of my junior year. The principal announced over the loudspeakers that planes had crashed into the towers while we were in 1st period classes. I was in English class at the time and our teacher assumed it was some horrific accident (the principal didn't provide a lot of information, which was probably in part due to limited information at the time) and wouldn't turn on the TV, as some of the students requested, because she felt that wanting to see it was just some kind of grim voyeurism. Fortunately, when I arrived for my 2nd period German class, the teacher had the TV on and was not really holding class, just watching and discussing the news. Sometime not long after that they dismissed everyone for the day.

I woke up to my alarm clock that morning at 7am and heard my mom on the phone with my grandma, and I heard the TV on the news channel. I went and watched, and saw the second tower get struck. One of the towers collapsed before I left for school.

I got to school (4th grade) at 8:30 and we watched the news in class for over an hour. I learned that the other tower had collapsed in the meanwhile.

My teacher scared the living shit out of us by saying that World War 3 was about to begin, and that our lives will never be the same.
