Honestly for a good long long while it didn't bother me as much, but it does get to a point. Sometimes you just don't want to see that stuff anymore. MK11 was kind of the breaking point for me, and it reminded me of a old cartoon from Tales from the Crypt which I wanted to erase from my mind. Now if it was just a little gore, and not overly disgusting it's all good..but man some artists and animators out there really take it too far in my opinion. :(

In a way the Resident Evil Series handles this way better than some video games, and doesn't go overboard about it.

some of the gore effects in L4D2 were the first to really gross me out.

I mean I just don't see the need to gross out the viewer, gore is fine in some doses but gore for the sake of it flying everywhere is just is plain out nasty.

I kind of wonder what the hell was going on in the animator's head, and was he mentally ok?

Haven't hit that point yet with over the top gore and violence. Minor and more realistic violence get to me though. I remember one of the TCM movies. Guy gets his leg chopped off and flops on the ground. I laugh because it is funny and I have no frame of reference. Girl gets dragged down the hall and tears off her fingernails digging in the ground and I have to turn to away.

I feel the same way about excessive profanity as well. A blue joke here and there is amusing. But the movie Sausage Party had me rolling my eyes before it was halfway over. Wasn't funny or entertaining because they just kept at it non-stop.

Some people like excessive gore in games, me included. It doesn't mean there's something wrong with us.

I think MK10 and MK11 are the breaking points, period. Like, normally gore and blood doesn't phase me, but even those games, I was like, "Holy shit."

I should clarify, I mean is it even healthy for a animator to think up of all the ways to do to a body? That must be a serious mindfuck after the fact.

There was a story about the staff of MK11 getting PTSD from watching real gore videoa in order to design the fatalities.

I saw that Robot Chicken episode where a guy gets stuck between a train and his guts fall out and the episode where Frylock Meatwad and Carl are in Shake's brain and force him to cut his tongue off hardly anything affects me anymore. The only things I can think of that gross me out even a little now are that cat with no face or that bit in South Park where they show bloody footage of male to female surgery.

To make the gore as realistic as possible. Hell, perhaps they don't wanna do it but the fact that they're working on MK makes it part of their job.

Of course, all of this is on top of the insanely stressful overtime crunches.

Yeah MK is too gruesome for me to enjoy. I don't even like it how shotguns explode heads in Red Dead. It's getting too gross as graphics get better.

its because MK isnt a good fighting game at heart anymore and uses nostalgia, gore and violence to appeal to a niche group.

This isnt exactly for or against your point, but Ive always rallied against the desensitization to violence crowd. The more realistic it gets in entertainment mediums, the more abhorrent I find real-life violence.

While I admittingly enjoyed gibbing and hacking up enemies in violent games like Soldier of Fortune 2, I still find real life gore to be stomach-churning.

Forget RE6, sometimes the gore in RE2make actually got to me a bit.

Also the first couple of fight scenes in John Wick Chapter 3 made me wince so many times.

it's funny, i'd gotten to that point at one moment of my life...and then it just disappeared again.

i actually find the gore in mk11 to be so over the top that it's comical, like a cartoon. i think the actual, more realistic stuff has a better chance of getting to me.

Thank god Warframe has a gore filter. As all games should.

I think the Dead Space series death cutscenes are the first for me to turn my head from the TV. I never played Mortal Kombat. Plus I had a Super Nintendo so it would have been censored anyway.

Dark Sector being one of my favorite third person shooters; I still only replay it post chapter 3 after that 90% of the enemies are the infected and not humans.

I think to sum it up, it really depends how you depict gore in your game, animations, and movies.

Some don't phase, but others do.
