Getting power and going crazy, and having to be put down like theyre Old Yeller?

Game of Thrones did it (badly)
Dark Phoenix is about to do it (badly)
One of the Hobbit movies did it (but I dont think they had to kill her iirc)

Do we even really see any examples of the opposite? Where some dude gets a rad power boost but a woman has to kill him because he cant control himself?

Doesnt Dark Phoenix need, like, a whole ass movie or two to act as context to this whole thing? I thought they wouldve learned after Logan that people are actually invested in the X Men and will watch everything, and that these same fans have the attention span to remember stuff from two movies ago.

The entertainment industry is heavily politicized to manipulate and sway opinions.

It's incredibly easy to do this. Conceptually easy, slightly time consuming to execute--

1) Buy the writers for the job
2) Likable/relatable characters take on the qualities we like to see in a protagonist
3) Alternatively, we dislike the antagonists' bigotry because fuck that attitude, amirite?
4) Common sense solutions subliminally shape the audience for desired behavior during future happenings. (Isolated chaos... division during reactions... increased finger pointing for not acting like the norm that entertainment established.)

Etc.

Right now gay and strong independent women themes are in.

Also, the more we shove the tech theme down kids' throats, the easier the bombshell transition to cyborgs/AI will be when the older folks die out; kids have been so used to them.

Dungeons and Dragons and other imagination games are strong right now too because it's harmless imagination against the machine, the system. While people "waste their time" with imagination in the ultimate mainstream safe space, it's that much easier to ignore the evildoings in reality. (I hate describing it like this because I love D&D, but it is what it is, too.)

I seldom watch TV anymore. I love books so much better. Authors don't fuck up their stories nearly as much as the movie producers do. Art vs corporate money maker.

To be fair, Dark Phoenix was originally published in 1980 so if they screw it up, it's likely the director's fault

If they screw it up, its because they didnt give themselves enough time to actually flesh out the characters so we could care about them.

Part of the tragedy of Dark Phoenix is that Jean was, like, a super heroic person. How many people are going to watch this and immediately think that all that Jean is, is some puppet for an evil space fire bird to possess and make go crazy?

Nobodys getting time to even show who they are. Thats the real issue here.

That's one of the reasons why Apocalypse was terrible: not sufficient time to tell the story.

But let's say the director pulls it off and manages to fit a good story in there. It's still not a new story about a woman going power crazy and needing to be put down like your original post.

You're right it should be more than one movie though. I think trying to do in one is going to either cram too much into the movie or too much will be left out if they only do it in one movie
