Trivia: Vib-Ribbon - Sunny Day. I actually like that song quite a bit. Sometimes I get picky over the singer's voice in vocal songs but I don't mind it there. It's quirky, for lack of a better word, but it never crosses into annoying territory for me. Not to mention, it's a nice and happy song.

Not the vote I expected to be making, but like steelchambers, NWO is one of those songs I'm starting to enjoy significantly more than I did back when this started.

I really like the direction the beginning is taking. You got the harpsichord, and when combined with the violin and choir synth, it provides somewhat of a rustic feel to the track. Im LOVING the moving/rhythmic background parts in combination with the slow violin melody on top. And then the vocals come in, and the music totally craps the bed for a little while. Im just a fan of the writing for the singers, initiallyit seems to be all over the place. And Im just not a fan of the singers style. Fortunately, the vocal writing gets a LOT better once we hit 1:44. The way the music climaxes after that is awesome. Im loving the violin coming in after that moment, too! Way to move the move the music forward. What happens at 2:29 is a bit unexpected and oddly satisfying to listen to. The music finishes on a positive note. Overall, really good but man, that long INTRO.

Terraria Calamity Mod Music - "Servants of The Scourge"
Whoa is what describes the first section, especially when I listened to it for my first time. Where to begin? The first section has no real melody, really and yet it grabs our ears! Impressive (you could say the chimes are the melody), and that says a lot about the harmonies. D-flat/E-Flat/A-Flat (whatever that is), D major 7, G major 7, A major 9, B major 9.(something like that), and then repeat but somewhat different. Some of those chords seem to leave out the 3rd and use the 4th instead. Cool. What an ATMOSPHERE this track creates, too. Chimes in VGM are often used awkwardly in VGM, but not here! I just LOVE them in this track. Those treble synth flourishes are awesome, too.

I enjoy the respite from the high energy of the previous section at 1:00, and once again, chimes are used in a lovely way. I always welcome the main theme coming back a second time (A theme this good needs to be milked, right?), and starting that on a lower dynamic seems pretty effective. 2:52 in of itself is nothing special, but somehow it fits in with the overall music, and I admit that I like the silences such as at 3:10. And I really like how 2:52 starts offmid-rhythm is the best way to describe it. It temporally makes you think its off by a half-beat, but then it kind of corrects itself quickly and the rhythms back to normal. I like that! And then theres 3:32 where the melody goes flatter as it tapers off I love that! And then, when I thought we were in the second loop, 4:43 presents something entirely new. Cool. I like the change up in the meter and texture there while borrowing old melody, but modified.

4. Granblue Fantasy - New World Order (8.5) (for/over Full Base; over Chaos King, End of Raging Waves)

The vocals in New World Order are the only things holding it back from greatness in my eyes/ears (well, that and "foo-LISH cru-CI-ble," which always makes me wince). But by the halfway point of the song, when the voices sing together in harmony, everything comes together so neatly that all is forgiven. New World Order is one of the few songs from this contest that sticks with me outside the matches, running through my head during the day, particularly the last section about "the eternal world" (or whatever). It's pretty great.

And then we have Servants of the Scourge. Every time this starts I always get hyped for a top tier song, but unfortunately the beginning is the best part of the song. Every time it returns to that beginning I enjoy it, but I just don't love the rest of it as much. And there's a lot of the rest of it. The first section just drags; my interest totally wanes, and then I'm brought back in again by the amazing intro part. I like the second section, with its aggressive drums, a bit better. The third section is fine, but it's nothing special. That intro part is so good; I just wish the rest of the song held up as well.

Easy match. Both songs have flaws, but one song's flaws go away about a third into it.

This will probably be the best match for me (in terms of tastes) from here on out.

Match-up analysis

So... New World Order finally managed to retire. That's awesome. This is my favorite song remaining. Unfortunately, I'm gonna take a (not so wild) guess and say that not only is this the end of the road for it, but also that, without even taking a look at all the votes so far (and the ones still to come), Servants is going to win by a landslide. After all, both 1NF3S+@+!0N and Servants have proved to not only be really powerful, but also the only songs in this retirement crop to have a chance to stop EXSPHERE from becoming champion.

I don't have much time to write everything as in-depth as I'd want, but I can only say that Servants is a great piece (better than Infestation, I think [I'll have to figure that out next round]) with a steady quality, while NWO has a great quality from the beginning that just keeps on rising and rising.

If NWO wins now, I'd be slightly upset for not seeing both Calamity songs face each other in an extremely hyped battle (lol), but I'd happily root for it to win it all.
