This is presumably one of those tracks for danger/intense scenes. Its one of the best of this kind Ive heard in any game that electric bass melody at the start is so tasteful. Theres a piano crescendo that I always love. The string patterns up the tension. Those piano flourishes/clusters at 0:16 and 0:22 are totally awesome. The flute rounds out the theme in a beautiful way As get into the second minute we get some more cool little transitions between each phrase the composer was obviously having some fun there. 1:24 provides a respite from all the franticness. MAN, I cant believe all that this music has for only having two little musical ideas! It stays fresh the entire time. Thats a sign of a genius composer! Its just so perfect!

Ranking: 2 out of 16
Favorite part: Tough to pick just one part.... gee.....0:00 - 0:24 and wherever the flute plays.

Perfection is the first thing that comes to mind. The piano melody is pretty much my favorite kind of melody fast, covers a large range, non-traditional note choices, and rhythmically-interesting patterns. Interestingly, the piano never touches the tonic of the harmony except when it starts the patterns at the end. The piano runs themselves line up with a bit different scale than what its supposed to be awesome. Okay, now Im done talking about the first seven seconds. The idea repeats, but with minor modifications. A contrasting slow melody comes up. Next, the flute plays it beautifully and the piano comes back with the same idea as before. The way this all fits together is justwow. Brass punches and xylophone add to the perfect blend of sounds without ever getting in the way. Even the growling is endearing, but I guess I could understand if you dont like that. Finally, the brass introduces yet another contrasting section that just fits in perfectly. I just love that CHORD at 1:12, how its in B7, but then it plays again at 1:19 but a B-flat 7th. Ahhhhhhh, it gives me the chills! Finally, the music seems to be over and its just going to simply repeat, but then it throws one more awesome thing at you the grand pause at 1:46. AHHHHH! So good. I cant say for sure its my #1 in the whole contest, but it is a contender along with a few others.

Nope, these tunes are not being revised downward. This is, in my book, the match of the contest! Either one winning will make my happy. I just hope neither gets blown out....

it's a shame the two truly great Atelier songs this contest were the ones that didn't retire. the others aren't bad at least, particularly YOATI. i also quite like Slag Dance, though the other bonus match today is pretty weak.

I don't know enough about the Atelier series game-wise or music-wise to make an informed vote, but I'm gonna vote Atelier Ayesha anyway so that I can help Atelier Ayesha become the winning poll option in the Atelier Ayesha vs. Atelier Ayesha featuring Atelier Ayesha thread on this day of Atelier Ayesha Music Contest. Have I said Atelier Ayesha enough? Okay, guess I'll talk about the songs in the bonus match now because why not.

BONUS MATCH 1

Sagittarius keeps me pretty drawn into the song with some nice sounding chords and a good melody. I especially like the flute here. Salamander, though, is a bit more meh. It's still good, but I feel a lot less drawn into the song. The things I said about Sagittarius, I feel, are less the case with Salamander. I'm also not super big on pan flutes in general I guess? There are probably exceptions to this, but I guess I like regular flutes more.

BONUS MATCH 2

Mystic Pendulum was robbed this year! Don't get me wrong, Revenger's a very good song and all, but I love Mystic Pendulum a lot more and I was very much in favor of Mystic Pendulum winning its round 2 match against Revenger. I had it as a favorites bracket retiree. Slag Dance is pretty cool, though. I like the vocal stuff going on and the general sound of it. A lot of it feels like you're fighting against enemy in some sacred temple or something. I think the actual boss this song is for is just a big slag or something, so that's probably completely wrong.

I'm usually pretty fond of Atelier music, so all the Ayesha songs here today were ones that I liked. Sad that 3 of the battle/boss battle themes (I don't know which ones are regular battle music and which ones are boss music besides Slag Dance being a boss theme) were included, but not my favorite one, Stargazer :(

Also, I'm starting to think that recently, these song trivia lyrics have been getting stranger each day.

AA-S -- Not too much of a fan of the very rural instrumentation. This song doesn't do too much past it's peaceful pleasantry adventure, though it manages to invoke feelings of both heavy summer and warm winter. Angry sun. Really though not much of a fan here.

AA-S -- This song gets off to a much more interesting start with those weird synth sounds, which quickly get covered by more standard electric guitars. The flute/recorder/wind instrument that starts up with the main start of the song seems really weak to me, not an instrument I particularly want to listen to all that much, but even with that this song is a lot more appealing than the other. Seems a lot more "blue/purple" in it's feelings, like a cloudy summer day or cool winter. Not-so-angry sun. This winds off coming out quite more preferable for me

AA-SD -- What a silly vocal. Sounds like someone just playing with autotune slider and having a bit of fun. I can't complain about vocal being in the singular at that moment. An alright song, mixing the darker electric guitar with a lighter oriental instrument. The empty pause is kind of funny but I feel like what comes after doesn't properly "justify" the pause so it's just a silly pause. Like I said it's alright but not much butter, but I didn't really like the other song in this match so good job.

R1: Guidance vs Fountain of Dreams (wins 15-8??)
R2: Recollection Hill vs Southern Shrine (wins 12-3 with very fortunate draw)
R3: MARIA vs PVP 01 (wins 16-4, rip DFO)
R4: Slag Dance ties Dread of the Grave; Salamander vs dir (wins 12-8)
R5: Yesterday's Opponents vs Passion for Exploring (wins 15-6, another fortunate draw)
R6: Sagittarius vs Limit Break (wins 15-7)

Year 3's bracket was just generally weak all around for some reason. You'd think it'd have been my favorite year because DW7 did so well, and DFO was third place after running it back most of the way through the loser's bracket, but nah, I was just spent by the time that contest was over.

I'd really like to see how a Best OST would do with our current voter pool, but that's going to depend on someone else stepping up to run it because after VGMC ends, I am taking a break from running anything for a good long while. (This also extends to group or reverse-ranking, which I think is something else we really ought to be contemplating right now.)
