Yeah the weapons and resources you find out in the field are static. So theres places you can guarantee to find a strong weapon or ingredients to craft powerful potions.

And all weapons are a breakable right, so it's more or less worthless trying to get good ones that'll just break anyway?

What items specifically should I be on the hunt for early game?

After leaving the Great Plateau, which is the closest thing the game has to a tutorial stage, I went away from my objective and found a shrine I was very clearly under-equipped for, but managed to beat it and escape with some much more powerful weapons. Of course, those don't last forever.

Ok, so on discord I had the following feedback. How accurate are these?

also my fav armor in the game you can get before any dungeons
its hidden in giant labyrinths around hyrule, 3 of them

and

you can get the strongest shield in the game by going to hyrule castles basement
I think theres some strong armor there too

I'd recommend going in looking up as little as possible.

If you're getting the DLC though, that equipment will have you overpowered early, especially the phantom armor and Majora's Mask

Don't remember any armor in the castle but the rest is true. There are lots of good weapons there.

You have to finish off the stuff on the plateau before you're allowed to leave, after that there's no sequence beyond wandering around and having fun. If you want to get some powerful weapons you can make a break for Hyrule Castle right away, but you'll find that it's not exactly easy to pull it off safely if you don't know what you're doing.

Early on the best thing you can do is go for every shrine you find, you'll get some decent equipment in a lot of them and getting health and stamina increases are very helpful, especially stamina so you can get around more easily.

There's not really "op" equipment to find. They don't last long anyway. Go for Barbarian Armor and Hyrule Shield right away if you must but high end equipment drops like candy after you beat a few bosses, so the shrines...

I don't remember exactly what scales up enemies. Pretty sure it's slaying the bosses.

People enjoy games their own way. If i'm not metagaming, i feel like i'm wasting time and content by using non meta gear.

After you complete 40 shrines, respec with the statue at Hateno so you have 13 hearts, then go get the Master Sword. It never breaks.

Not true. Yes, weapons are breakable, but better weapons are less breakable, and easy to find. You can just pull them out in a tough battle. Everyone worries in the game about losing their weapons but the actual problem you face is not having enough inventory space for all your weapons.

With that said, good food recipes and good clothing is irreplaceable.

Also keep a big two-handed weapon on you (for cracking open rocks) and a korok leaf on you (for sailing) at all times, if possible.

Early upgrades should be used on stamina.

Do the Zora divine beast first. Then the bird one. Then the other two.

Buy a house in Hateno asap. It starts another quest in Akkala.

Follow the first quests you get for (not major spoilers) Zora's domain/beast and some researchers. Other than that, explore all you like. Do random shit, try everything, and just have fun. No need to rush the game at all. Exploration is really where this game flourishes, I hate to compare it but play it like you would Skyrim.

Also if playing on Switch, there are some shrines with bullshit motion controls. You can flip the mazes upside down, which makes it slightly less annoying.

You can use bombs on rocks too. The only place you wouldn't want to use them is where you're on a sheer cliff.

my suggestion for BotW is not to read any guides or take any advice on how to play, just go explore and play around.

that's the big appeal of the game, exploration, discovery, experimentation etc are key. if you are insistent on metagaming it's not going to be a very fun experience because BotW is not particularly difficult or deep when it comes to numbers/stats/etc.

you can stasis enemies. took me a long as time to try that.

if you want to make the biggest compltaint of the game, weapon breaking, a non factor.

if you have the dlc there's a way to make the master sword permanent. you'll get a teleport glyph you can place anywhere. do that. when your sword is about to break, go to the forest and go in the dlc and teleport out. sword is fixed. do this when you get a blood moon and farm lynels and (major) test of strength shrines. you'll be swimming in top tier weapons.

Technically. It never leaves your inventory, but it becomes unusable after a set number of hits (not sure how many) and has a cooldown before you can use it again. It's pretty reliable though. When near things possessed by Calamity Ganon and/or Malice though, the Master Sword doubles in strength and has a lot more durability than normal.

Do the divine beasts asap, they give you powerful magic.

The zora gives an extra life
The rito gives an updraft (imo the most useful)
The gerudo gives a super strong aoe lightning strike
The goron gives an invincible shield.

If you want to get strong fast, hunt them down

They're all around the game's world. If you don't recall seeing one you must've been lucky with your pathfinding. They're Lynels.
