I beat the game! It was great. I'm thinking it's probably my 2nd favorite metroidvania (slightly prefer SOTN), and probably in my top 40 games.

I think what makes it so successful is the variety of gameplay, and it all works great. 90% of weapons and souls I found, I'd try 'em out and be like ooh!! That's awesome! Previous Castlevanias didn't come close to that, maybe like 10% of the weapons and abilities felt good, and the rest would be like "why is this here".

This is true for the various upgrade and customizations systems as well, just a ridiculous variety of fun choices. The cooking system looked annoying at first but I ended up loving it, intentionally finding the right enemies to farm for materials, to upgrade specific stats.

And I felt the difficulty was just right, pretty hard, just hard enough to make me want to actually put effort into my builds. Never frustrating though, just right.

I do really like customizing Miriam too, also one of the best parts.

The game is definitely janky though, I had 5+ system crashes (can't remember the last time my computer crashed...) and that one laggy boss fight.

I still have to put SOTN above it though, because the atmosphere and music just doesn't quite live up to SOTN, and that's a really important aspect for these games for me.

I got Head Flail pretty early, and man this thing is broken. It always dealt much more damage than my main weapon did, until very recently when I bought some frost blade for all my cash
The thing is, I play very boring-ly usually, doing stuff like "solo starter" in Pokemon games and the likes
But I am not sure it's my fault - if the game is not limiting me, this is what happens. If I don't get challenged, I don't see a reason to use those unique skills

I remember playing Call of Duty 2 back in the day, I played it like a Doom game, pretty much "shoot em up" running and shooting stuff left and right, it was kinda mediocre
Then I played on the hardest difficulty. Suddenly, I had to take cover, I had to play safe. Those Smoke Grenades I thought were useless were actually the most usefulthing in the game. I had to play it smart and safe. The game I thought was mediocre was suddenly so much more fun

So I really hope that whenever I get to play Bloodstained on a harder difficulty, I will find myself needing to use other shards, other weapons etc
I want to enjoy it more, the game has the potential for it

As someone whose only complaint about SotN is how faceroll easy it becomes halfway through, this sounds incredible.

How much of a step up is hard mode? I only just got the double jump but things have been really easy lately after a big initial spike with Zangetsu.

Chest Bug

Xbox One (Status: Fix Incoming)

Treasure chest issues have been fixed; after the patch, unique items will be obtainable even on existing playthroughs. The patch for this should be submitted today (Wednesday), and we anticipate public release on Friday or Saturday.The teams are also working on additional improvements and bug fixes.

Playstation 4 (Statusunchanged)

The problems causing the bug have been identified, teams are working to identify and implement solutions. No new users affected by this bug, just like before all new games/playthroughs are safe to play.

Nintendo Switch (Statusfix being tested)

The fix is currently in test, the submission date we were working toward has been delayed due to a graphical bug that has reemerged. We anticipate testing will be completed by next week, which would mean an ETA of public release during the week of July 15, 2019. Improvements

Map Improvements

Map close button has been remapped to standard exit/close button
Marker button has been changed
Trail display button has been changed
Map scroll speed improved
Zoom in and zoom out improved
Zoom level retained when reopening the map
Auto-center when opening the map
Bug fix: No longer displaying enemies for completed quests

Fixed items getting stuck on walls/geometry

The functionality of waiting until the item is collected automatically has been left in, in case the issue persists.

Switch-specific Improvements

HD Rumble issues in certain areas of the game have been fixed
Enabled Traditional Chinese language option
Fixed instances where the game would crash while transitioning between rooms
Work has been done on the technical "non-visible" side of things to improve input delay, stability, and various optimizations. The teams are continuing to work on these items and we'll have future updates and plans to share soon.

"Iga's Back Pack" DLC

Xbox One (StatusDLC being tested)

Testing will happen next week, if completed successfully we will submit and have an updated ETA for release during the week of July 15, 2019.

Playstation 4 (StatusDLC submitted, pending approval and release)

We're currently working through some submissions with Sony, and plan to have an update, hopefully for release, next week.

Nintendo Switch (StatusDLC approved, release imminent)

The DLC has been approved by Nintendo, we're just taking the final steps to make it go live.

I am slightly annoyed that I found an OP shard almost immediately once I entered the castle
IDK if it's going to hold up, but it is just shredding though everything, making this rather easy so far.

But yeah, I wish I had not found it because all of the other shards are even pointless to try. Oh well.

Won't play Bloodstained myself for a while, but saw streams and LPs already. Good to know lots of jank is being taken care of. It definitely felt like the game had a very solid "feel," but a lot of gameplay mechanics and story elements didn't coalesce completely.

Is it a matter of QA testing? If it is the same people who made the earlier Konami titles, you'd think a lot of this sort of thing would be less of a widespread issue. Then again, I don't know if the Castlevania titles were on multiple platforms like this.

Still, I love the fact the game is whatit says it is: Metroidvania, and nothing more.

Go to the place in on the bottom left big tower room where the minimap jumps. They'll continually spawn there.

yeah I tried that spot with the minimap but it seemed so slowww or maybe I had to stay still more because it was taking forever for more to spawn and it's hard to be patient when you have Accelerator

so what I would do was stick by the first Buer tossing dude and just kill his Buers for whatever little blood I could gather and that was working acceptably

... barring the damn game freezes

BUT YAY 9/9'D ALL... that's possible with a single run, so I think I've done all I can with this file now to move

yeahhhhh that's just... exactly as you'd expect, redoing the same long setup for him and pretty much just multitasking to computer browsing during the wait

although thankfully its shard rate is like 3 times the norm, 12% then plus whatever all my Luck is boosting

*checks* I ended up killing 30 of them for the 9 Grade... it was probably more annoying to farm 8-Bit Overlord since its rate is just the same as any ordinary demon and you gotta go through the whole stage to fight him again -- which took 82 times for me

it's caused me to get completely stuck in some walls in one area so I'mma say glitch... thankfully I could still use waystones

I've had it happen a bunch of other times but they've often actually just helped me skip through rooms faster so I just go "oh cool beans"

After all the praise in this topic I wasn't expecting for this game to be so bad. Every thing is so janky and ugly, the ui is bad (why do I have to confirm twice to save?) And the loading times are so bad, theres one section where you have to jump from one room to another and it takes literally 15 seconds of black screen. Bosses get stuck in the floot but still manage to do damage to me despite being nowhere neer me. I think my least favorite part is that after going through those empty transition rooms I'll get a long load screen. The whole purpose of those rooms is to mask load times!

I'm still enjoying it but its worse than the worst 2-D castlevania
