Apparently in Christian heaven you're supposed to pray and praise God 24/7 for all eternity, and that's supposed to be like a reward? An eternity at Mass?

I remember in like kids' Sunday School a guy asked me what I knew about heaven and I said it was made of gold and you saw all your dead relatives. He told me that it's just our souls in heaven so you wouldn't have your eyeballs and stuff to see or eat. This freaked me out a lot.

Yeah, that's kind of the take I've gotten from it as well.

I'm not insulting or knocking it, but having grown up with it thrust upon me and now, suprise I haven't been to church outside of 2-4 times in the last 15 or so years.

Can't do various things because it's bad for whatever reason. Fair enough
Gotta devote as much of your physical life to worship and following certain rules/aspects. Fair enough
Reward is that you get to worship and praise Him for all eternity, most likely following certain rules/aspects. Wait a second.

Basically can't do anything so that you're rewarded with not doing anything later. Also pretty sure you'd be scolded for complaining, but according to what I've been told you'll be so stricken with wanting to praise you won't want to do anything else, but worship. Yeah, I don't know.

I'd rather have part of me come back as a tree or whale. At least that way I can become someone's furniture/firewood, termite food, or get harpooned by one of those countries to keep the cycle going.

My sunday school teacher told me that people don't go to a firey buning hell. They basically go into a world of eternal isolation and darkness where you eventually go insane from the lack of stimulation

Being Catholic I had it explained as TC said. Just basking in the eternal glory of god and praising him 24/7.

Of course being me I remember getting into it with my grandfather once about that. Massive big time old school Catholic. And my confirmation teacher in high school.
That basically that sounds like misery. If heaven is eternal happiness then I know what that is to me. And it isn't that.
"You don't know what you're talking about. You're perspective changes."
So I'm no longer myself and just a mindless drone. And the only reason it's like you say it is is to appease some otherworldly being that wants nothing but to be worshiped 24/7 by people he's stripped all will and individuality from. Trapped forever at the will of a tyrant. Because that sounds a whole lot like Satan more than a benevolent god.

It did not go over well and I was told by both that I needed to repent or I'm going to hell.
And I have to say over 20 years later I still haven't changed my thoughts on the matter.

It doesn't really work with the human conception of happiness at all. You'd either need to shed all human values, meaning it's worthless to the you who exists in life, or it doesn't actually allow for maximum happiness at all.

Makes you wonder just what kind of god he is, should he exist.

Supposedly, your eternal soul wouldn't be hindered by your flesh. Your flesh is the part that thinks praising god 24/7 would be boring, while your spirit yearns for that. Since we are in the flesh right now, it's difficult to understand. Also, if you feed your flesh more than the spirit (I.E by living in the world and doing worldly things), the flesh will be stronger and near impossible to have any interest in god.

I think eternal existence of any kind would be boring. Regardless of what youre doing, do you REALLY think it wouldnt get boring after a few million years? After youve done about everything you could ever want to do a few times over? Oh, youre out of things to do and bored now? Too bad..cuz a few million years is a drop in the bucket compared to the age of the known universe, let alone the concept of an eternity...

I'm fairly certain homeownership is a thing in heaven, imo. I've had dreams from dead relatives that I couldn't have had. Like, they appeared to me in their young form - to which, I would not be familiar enough to simply make them up in my mind (then when I later checked pictures they were scarily accurate). Wine and food are a thing, most likely. If you don't like wine on earth, you'll like it there.

I'm a firm believer everyone has their own unique version of heaven. You get to surround yourself with what you want to do. You get to do what's most fun to you. Maybe some ventures you never got to do on earth due to circumstances. Hobbies still exist.

But youd also lose your free will and become a mindless puppet who always does the right thing and worships God 24/7 so that doesnt sound appealing to me at all. Plus living forever sounds horrible

The Christian Heaven is defined as "eternal oneness with God", basically just your soul returning to the collective consciousness. Hell is defined as "eternal separation from God", or being permanently removed from the collective consciousness.

Neither is a physical place where you experience the passing of time. It's a state of being. Similar, in a way, to the Buddhist idea of each person being made up of multiple levels of consciousness..."Heaven" is the highest level, the one all of existence shares.

It's really not far off from the way the universe actually works.

I went to Catholic school for 12 years and that's the way it was described to us.

My ideal heaven is when everybody gets their own instances. Like an island or something with all biomes.

You get to play real life minecraft or inception with infinite resource and money, spawn any item and npc with the likeness of any real person etc so you can live life however you want. You can choose to live with your family or not. And the item spawns become available as the living world progresses. Like if your living in heaven now, you'll still have to wait till 2020 to play cyberpunk 2077.

Then there will be communal worlds where you can meet with everyone else if you wish.

That would be pretty cool. This way everybody will be happy. And no crimes can be commited against one and another. And you can meet up with friends to talk about going ons on earth and watch earth sports together n stuff.

I would spend a ton of time making a small town and then populate it with beautiful female npcs.
