BattleBots is back on TV with a brand new season of metal munching mayhem! Week 5 of this 16-week season airs tonight at 8PM Eastern on the Discovery Channel. Unfortunately, the Science Channel re-runs have fallen a week behind due to not airing an episode this week, but rest assured, the episode that airs tonight (along with the extra bonus fight) will be re-played at some point. Anyways, here's the fight card for this week:

Our main event features the hottest rookie bot from last season, Whiplash, taking on the legendary and devastating former champion, Son Of Whyachi. Other veterans such as Minotaur and Witch Doctor are scattered across the rest of the card alongside promising rookies such as Bloodsport and Mammoth. Last week's episode was one of the best and most brutal episodes yet (just ask Duck!) and this week looks to be just as interesting.

Damn, that was brutal. Both bots took a major hit at the start, but Black Dragon recovered from it quicker and delivered an impressive knockout that looked more like a penalty kick. Next up is Witch Doctor vs. Captain Shrederator. Let's see if Shrederator can go a whole fight without dying.

Even worse, Ray Dorset closed his account.

You should throw on Discovery and watch it with us. The bots in this day and age are insane compared to the old days, both in toughness and in sheer destructive power. It's crazy how far technology has come.

Both of those bots were awesome for their time. Conveniently enough, the team that retired Biohazard from competition by dismantling it beyond repair, Team Megabyte, is competing in the very next fight of this episode with their current bot, Gigabyte.

EDIT: To clarify, Biohazard actually suffered its career-ending damage across two fights, one against Megabyte and one against Brutality (an older bot from the same team that now drives the reigning BattleBots champion, Bite Force.

That was Robot Wars, which actually existed and started airing on television before BattleBots. In reality, BattleBots was actually the knock-off back in the day.

EDIT: Yep, they gave it to Gigabyte. I didn't expect Minotaur to be 0-2 at this point. That's a shocker.

Uppercut vs. Mammoth is up next. We haven't seen Uppcercut fight yet, but we remember seeing Mammoth YEET Axe Backwards out of the arena in their debut fight a couple of weeks ago. Which of these rookie teams will get the win?

Seems some other folks are in the DVR camp this week. Looking over the card, WTF does Jasper do? Visually it seems to be mounting a hammer, but that toy ray gun look would be detrimental if it were a hammer, yeah? Also, I wonder if someone will figure out that the best strat against Mammoth would be a full speed rush into its side, essentially doing a bit of cow(Mammoth) tipping.

They suffered 3 losses in the original BatteBots, one of which was to Son Of Whyachi in a tournament final. The two battles against Megabyte and Brutality that ended its career were at an unaffiliated live event, because BattleBots had been cancelled the year before.

I don't know how you're remembering that it fought Hazard. As far as I know, they never fought, and those two bots aren't even in the same weight class. Hazard was a middleweight (and a dominant one at that), while Biohazard was a heavyweight.

No, that's not correct. The original BattleBots had 5 official seasons and was cancelled in 2004. Then the series was revived in 2015, and the currently airing season is the 4th (2 on ABC, 2 on the Discovery/Science Channels) of this rebooted series. So there's been 9 in total. Plus, roboteers kept competing in various live events and tournaments such as RoboGames in the 11 years that the series was not on TV.

Damn I didn't think Whiplash would win after the massive damage at the start, but good job. Pretty fun matches tonight overall. Mammoth catching fire was a highlight for me, even though I don't hate it or anything I just thought it was funny <_<

Whiplash lost half of its scoop and took a lot of damage, but they're the ones standing tall in the end. Great fight worthy of a main-event spot.

The week after, sadly. Science Channel didn't show an episode this week because this Wednesday was the night before July 4, so ratings would be garbage. I'm guessing that when Discovery takes a week off for Shark Week, Science will use that to catch up.
