Unpopular opinion time:

Everyone only thought it was great because it had implied gays and it looked like anime. If you watched more than 3 animated shows a year, youd see that very little effort was put into animating everyones movements. And the backgrounds are even more boring and tasteless than Legend of Korras. Its literally a step down from AtLA in every way.

The characters all suck. I know the generally consensus (now) is that everyones story arcs ended badly (especially Lance, why did he become a farmer? Why did he get Alluras markings? None of these make sense for his growth throughout the show.) but they were bad right from the very start.

Despite it being Voltron, theyre not even together for most of the series, and its not like they ever really build up to anything with those overextended solo adventures, its almost always to drag out the and thats it. The pilots switch their robots more than I switch lanes in a highway, which... fine... but they do it so much and ass so much unimportant shit that everything gets incoherent. What was the deal with Keiths (was it Keiths or Shirous, I cant remember) teleporting dog thing? I feel like (also with Keith) they kinda... forgot to draw him into frame a lot... like the animators and writers didnt know who would even be involved from episode to episode.

Voltron isnt bad because of the ending (although that is certainly one of the reasons), its flawed right down to the very core. Everyone involved in that series is to blame, even the fans (and I have a LOT to say to you, fans)

Theres only one explanation for why this show used to be popular.

We have accepted mediocrity.

I mean, I didn't like it even when I was a kid, didn't have a TV and could only watch stuff at the boys club. Tons of better shows on at the time.

Not sure why it was so popular. Heard they made a remake/new version recently as well.

TMNT was great for instance and around the same time, heck I liked SMURFS better then voltron lolz.

I was actually talking about the Netflix version, but yeah, the original was a product of its time (theres a LOT to go into here) and was bad just like most other cartoons from that general period.

Netflix Voltron had no excuse to shit the bed at almost every opportunity and STILL -still- get thousands of people crazy about it.

Dont know anything about the new one.

The original is comparable with its contemporaries such as Silverhawks, Thundercats, and He-Man.

They arent high quality but I liked them as a kid and they still hold nostalgia for me.

The one show that came by a little later that I want to rewatch is Mighty Max. Loved that show when I was like 10.

While the new series had it's problems, especially the character endings, as a whole I enjoyed it. The fandom is awful though.

I actually got the chance to talk to one of the voice actors (briefly) at a bar once, and he told me some... not bueno stuff about the fans

When I say that these [things] about the show are bad (tone shifts, plot points that never go anywhere or character deaths that SHOULD be something you spend more than 5 minutes on) its easy to misconstrue my words and think Oh, PK thinks the entire show is shit and thats not the case, not really. Theres lots of stuff I like about it.

But theres also a lot of stuff I HATE. But when I talk about things I dislike, Im not just criticizing one specific part of the show, Im criticizing the entire production. This show was flawed, right down to the very core, and didnt have much chance to actually be its best self because of so much executive meddling that went down.

Koran was funny. I liked Koran.

Lucky, who's voice actor did you get to speak to? But yeah, I heard some very nasty things the fandom had done, death threats over shipping of all the ridiculous things.

Coran was brilliant, definitely one of my favourite characters. It's a shame the show never got a chance to shine properly, it had a lot of potential.

Edit: Hunk too, I was always disappointed they didn't use him more.

It was actually Tyler Labine lol

When I say talked to I dont mean like I had an in-depth discussion with him about it. I was introduced to him by another friend and I think I mentioned something about liking New Amsterdam (that Doctor drama hes in), and then before I left him alone (he didnt seem busy or anything, but I know constantly talking to fans of any kind is exhausting) I mentioned that I was really sorry for all the backlash him and the rest of the cast had to deal with.

Labine is chill af, so he just shrugged and laughed when talking about how the cast was blamed for the eventual product we got, but I know dealing with that shit in the moment is more stressful than he let on.
