I agree, but the issue is much of the time, the person isn't a facist or Nazi, they're just saying things you don't like. Shutting down anyone with an opposing view point isn't good, in fact, it's bad.

Vandalizing a PA system or DDOSing a website is not acceptable at all. It's simple vandalism at best, and can escalate to terrorism at worst.

I've been a liberal my entire life. I grew up in a blue collar household. My mom is an independent artist and my dad is a tradesman. My brother was in the metal and hardcore scene in the '90s. My friends have been in the punk scene for decades. I'm far from being a western conservative in any traditional sense.

And I totally think stuff like this is upsetting, and I DO think that most far leftists - like the stuff TC and his friends are posting - is totally counterproductive. I've literally been kicked out of Facebook groups in the past for civil discussion, saying that education and rehabilitation are key -- not blocking, walking out, and throwing tantrums. I was honestly very polite in those groups -- not like I am here on CE.
For example, there was a group making fun of white people stereotypes. It wasn't meant to be political. Some of the mods were non-binary, and were getting upset about posters who were confused or thought there were only two genders. They weren't "flaming," they were literally just ignorant in some cases. Instead of education they just kicked them out of the group, and I commented saying that's not at all how you inspire change and then I got attacked and blocked.

I can point to tons of examples in my own life where I was ignorant, and had people just attacked me or avoided any discourse I would've remained ignorant. I remember being confused about people being upset about the word "female." I remember being big into alternative medicine. I remember struggling to understand why I felt cultural and racial identity was important but I felt gender identity wasn't - and was pro-gender neutrality. All of those opinions of mine were changed from discourse -- either civil or uncivil.
If I would've just been blocked from discussion I never would've evolved.

This whole gen z, far left generation that loves its digital vigilantism, deplatforming, and/or avoidance of discussion is so far from progressive. It's really upsetting and has made me lose so much faith in people over the last few years.

You're not making this statement unconditionally right? If you are, you're wrong. It depends on the opposing view. Shutting down people with certain views is a good thing.

If you aren't then yeah, one can't just go around shutting down people who just happen to have a different point of view. So the question is, which views are acceptable, and which ones aren't, to the point that anyone espousing them should be shut down. Surely you can see that fascists fall in the group that does need to be shut down...?

I'm a liberal because I'm pro social assistance programs. I've worked with WIC. I've volunteered with non-profit CSAs, food banks, food pantries, etc. I petitioned to limit money lobbyists can spend on politicians. I voted for Nader in '04, and Obama in '08 and '12. I've been pro-union, and utilized my union rights at multiple jobs. I've always been helpful to those working lower-income jobs. I've always tipped 20%+ for any service or job that relies heavily on tips for its workers.

I'm also a liberal because I believe in rehabilitation and education, and I believe in empathy for others. Sorry?

Because anyone who leads their sentence saying how they are liberal has always ended up not being liberal.

I can get bobbaaay's argument of trying to educate ignorant people but that only works for people who are willing to be educated. A lot of times people refuse to change their stance and they argue in bad faith. And fascists argue in bad faith.
