My dad had an NES set that he got as a christmas gift from my moms family. When I was born he took it out when I was like a year old.

I remember being 2 or 3 and he'd come home from work and play NES cause I'd love watching him play even though I was too young to play properly. He'd play punch out and mario and duck hunt.

My earliest memory of gaming for myself was being like 3 or 4 and getting a SNES and Mario World for my birthday.

Super Mario Bros on NES, TMNT2 was also around the same time.

I just remember the surreal magic of it, I was like 3 so I was terrible at everything but I have a permanent ingrained set of memories of those games and some others from around the same time. Even the black pre-level screen on SMB was magical to me, I didnt see it as a utilitarian way to show the level info before it started, but rather I saw it as a kinda set moment before action, like at a theatre when the lights go dark before the previews start. It felt ceremonial almost.

Never beating some water level in Sonic 2. I died so many times, and it got to the point where I wouldn't stop crying and obsessing over it so much that my mom took it away and hid it. God, I must have been like 4 or something. I've come a long way. Can't think of the last time since a game has made me rage so hard.

A few; I can't recall the order.

My parents bought an NES with a bunch of games; Mario 1, 2, 3, Megaman 2, 3, 4 and a few other games.

I also remember my dad bringing his Intellivision home from my grandmother's home and playing that. I think this was after the NES though; I had more fun on the Intellivision though!

I want to say my first gaming memory was either Pitfall or Battlezone for Atari (around age 3), as that was the first console my family owned, but my memory is so choppy, I have no clue what order things happened in, so it could have also been one of these;

Playing the sewer level in TMNT at some friends house (getting frustrated, but refusing to go home 'till I beat it)
Or playing Mario Bros 3 in an attic(?) at my cousin's house. No idea what level though, I just remember thinking how cool the overworld map was.

Watching my older sister play Sonic the Hedgehog.
Little 4-year old me was curious to try it too, though my sister only jokingly offered to let me play during the hard and intimidating-looking parts, like when being surrounded by lava in Marble Zone (or 'laven', as I pronounced it back then).

First game I actually played was Columns, when I was 5 or 6. A safe, easy and colorful start of what would become a string of addictions that would occasionally eat my nights away.

My older brother had a commodore, I don't remember the very first game we played on it, I do recall Kickstarter, a fruit machine game and a shark one though - it used tapes and took ages to load!

We also had one of those yellow handheld Galaxy Invader game things, the little stick would hurt your thumb after a while

Asteroids is hard af bro.

I actually really don't like Asteroids for this reason. Can only shoot and boost in the same direction, top-down relative turning, turns far too fast, it's a control nightmare.

eh it's hard to say which was first; we had both an NES and an Atari 2600 hooked up when I was very young because that was back when my dad still played video games other than like slots on his phone or whatever

super mario bros and pitfall were both really early memories, but my most vivid early memory is playing Rush'N Attack on NES

actually I still like run and guns more than hop and bop platformers

I remember my dad brining home a NES when it was released. Had no idea what it was so I wasn't too hyped or anything. My mom was going to the grocery store and I usually liked going with her so we went while my dad hooked it up.

When we got home and I saw him playing Mario Bros. I was blown away. It was literally unlike anything I had ever seen before
