Anytime they use the word critically injured it is a very very bad crash. Doctors rarely use the word critically to describe a patient, it is usually in a case where the patient has pretty high chance of possibly dying.

I don't see critical mentioned in the article, and it says he went home before going to the hospital. The car looks awful, though. I hope they're ok, I like Kevin.

Yeah based on the article, he was not critically injured. Looks like he'll stay alive, so that's good at least

It's weird that after suffering some major back injury he was taken home first and to a hospital later. They're lucky they didn't make it worse.

Whenever I hear critically, I think fatally =x And, in general, I'm not sure why I'm so much more shocked and unnerved than if the story was about another celeb, although maybe it's because I just associate "critical" with death rather than just the risk of death and now after that faded, I'm worried he might die.

Critically Is a blanket term for anything from broken bones to almost dead.

Umm not really I have had my 2 brothers both in the hospital with major injuries and the doctors never once considered them critically injured. If you break your arm they aren't going to rush you to ER if you call an ambulance or something.

I tend to consider "critical" injury as chest, head and back since there can be subtle complications.

Yes they will. What kind of lazy EMTs do you have?

In the media, maybe, but not for doctors. If doctors describe somebody as being in critical condition, that should be interpreted as "they will die if we don't do something immediately, and still might die despite our best efforts." The phrase shows up more often than it ought to in media because it sounds very dramatic (though it doesn't actually show up anywhere in this article).
