There's like a vibe that I like in waifus characters but I can't quite figure out how to put it in words. It's like, an innocent haughtiness. An over-inflated ego but also kindness for others. Naive but earnest. Stubborn in both good and bad ways. Childish but warm. Pompous but friendly. More straightforward than a tsundere, nicer than an ojousama, cockier than a genki. Best examples I can give are Nero (Fate) and sometimes Beato (Umineko), but I think Cirno (Touhou) and Rozalin (Disgaea 2) are in the ballpark.

I feel like I'm forgetting an adjective that would sum all that up, or at least there's a character archetype on tvtropes or something, but I haven't found anything yet. Whatcha got?

I'm not sure what the term for this is, but I'm pretty sure Estelle Bright is exactly this, so if you needed another reason to play Trails FC (assuming you haven't already), well, there you go.

Everything so far is kinda hitting around it! ...Not sure how I didn't think to mention Estelle, although she doesn't have as much ego as the others.

I'm not sure if I can think of a single term that covers all that.

Idiot Hero on TVTropes comes kinda close but I don't think it's what you're looking for - lacks the ego aspect, though it could co-exist with it.

I'm assuming Gon (HxH) also falls into the category you're thinking of. Think Innocently Insensitive is the closest TVTropes will get you but I can't be sure because that place is huge. Really any idea I have tends to fail one of the areas even if it mostly works with the others.

Ah yeah, she maintains full haughtiness but eventually comes around regarding the Pines.

I feel this is still slightly off, particularly on cockiness, and unnecessarily throws in the sub-requirement of status (It would work for Rozalin, but not Estelle, for example) but =/

Maybe. Doesn't specifically mention the characters need to be nice, but that the characters are well-liked despite being arrogant, which may come along with it.

Tsubasa from Monogatari might fit.

She's not really cocky or egergetic she's more like a super polite and nerdy girl, but then you learn she is repressing all of her selfishness and she develops into a character more like you describe.

I don't think it's manic pixie at all

I don't think this is necessarily even a trope - it's just a collection of different traits, and I don't think it's that common

I think this is the closest yet! Your caveats are also true but a lot of the examples that come to mind do have some level of status anyway.

She can be friendly and kind, but she always frames it as "I'm doing this for your own good, so you'd better be grateful," so she really mixes tsundere with the Ojou. The big thing is that she can never be completely honest with her feelings, which is a trademark of a tsundere.

I nominate we spam TV tropes and/or Wikipedia with suggestions until this trait becomes referred to as Wifeboloism.
