The characters and story in 8 are bad.

The only thing bad about the Dreamcast is the controller and that VMUs aren't exactly easy to get now.

As is the gameplay

That discouraged leveling up, promoted NOT using your magic in favor of junctioning and had you drawing so much that the remaster lets you do that 3 times as fast now.

Initial release date: February 11, 1999

Also, I only ever played FF, the first.
I actually had the Nintendo power that came out at the time, with the book.
I wish I still had that. >_>

Yayy the bad game that was nowhere close to as good as 7 came out today

Or Sega's last console, which was innovative and awesome.

Sega was always the most innovative.
I actually annoys me when people say Nintendo is, like say, in the media, or anywhere for that matter.
Nintendo has been resting on their laurels from the freaking 80's for like 30 years.
They are stale as shit, and relies almost totaly on gimmicks that fall flat within months.

I'd say Sega was ultimately a victim of their own success.
The things they did, brought in new 'gamers' and big money, and the industry as a whole has been watered down.

The N64 and GameCube were Nintendo resting on its laurels. You're crazy if you think the Wii and Switch aren't innovative. Not to mention the DS and 3DS.

I'll give you the 3DS, and Pikmin, the first.

But the Wii was built on a gimmick motion control, that had already been done, just to sell a console for.
And The Switch is a Glorified Handheld...but it does have a fantastic shoot-'em-up catalog, but that can be done on any platform. That's just licensing.

Other than that, Nintendo is the Fisher Price of gaming.

the bad controller, the battery-devouring vmus (with not enough memory to hold much), and the faulty disc drives are the three big problems with the dreamcast
the build quality of the thing didn't feel that good

Ff8 had amazing art direction, designs, and music though.

Plus, the Ragnarok is the best airship in the series.

So what exactly about the Dreamcast was innovative? Online play had already been done as far back as the 2600. VMUs were way bigger gimmicks than motion control and were utilized a lot less and by fewer games.

Actually, what was innovative about any of the Sega consoles? Their most successful console was like the opposite of innovative; it sold initially on its ability to do arcade ports that were closer to arcade perfect than what people were used to on the NES -- but the NES ports were more innovative and had different content specifically because they had to deal with the limitations of the format.

I actually like Sega consoles a lot but I don't see what was innovative about any of them, except maybe the marketing?

Ya, the 2600'ed on line play was huge back then? Ya, huh..

The Dreamcast was the first actually viable system to do that, out of the box.
It even had a web browser and Mouse and Keyboard support.
I VMU was an interesting concept that may not have lived to it's fullest potential, but just the ability to, say take it to school and transfer files, or play minigame was pretty cool.
It was the first no gimped out true 3D console. The PS1 was actually a trash 3D console.
The DC also had games like Seaman, and Shenmue.

But yes, Sega was innovative in arcades with sit down cabs, and that odd hologram game.
They basically ran the Arcade world in the 80's.

So, yes, The Genisis bringing the arcade experience home was a huge deal....and frankly the first nail the arcade worlds coffen. Which did hurt Segas bread and butter.

If it weren't for Sega there would be no Play Station, and probably no Xbox.

If Nintendo had their we would still be playing some dated gimped out system...which is what they keep putting out.
