I do find Tifa more interesting because her conflicted relationship with Cloud is really rich.

But Aeris in the original title is more worldly and adventurous than later media portrayed her. Fiction doesn't really need another motherly sacrificial Madonna. So the fact that Aeris got flanderized into that is kind of sucky. Aeris isn't Betty. If anything, she's Veronica.

I don't love Tifa's reduction to 'saintly love martyr' either, but at least that softer side of her character was always present in FF7 alongside the tomboy, and later media doesn't forget that, sufficiently motivated, she will beat your ass.

She's not trying to get into Cloud's pants all the time, she genuinely cares for his well-being, she's the better designed girl between the two, she beats demons and monsters with her fists.

How often did you use Great Gospel. I might have used it once, just to see it. And I had to grind that limit bar up to use it. It's pretty but not particularly useful given the hoops you'll jump through to use it.

At least Tifa's limit break isn't essentially an ornament.

Vincent is significantly worse (especially pre level 4 when he can elemental heal your enemy)and cait Sith will be worse by a light year since he insta kills your own team in a game with manual saves only

It's about maximizing those KotR and Mime materias. Because the conformer is mechanically broken and indisputably the best ultimate weapon, any 'best team comp' will have Yuffie. It will also have Cid because of his 3xAP growth lance, and probably Cloud for his 3xAP growth sword.

Yes. Fortunately, he's also really good in just about every role, which is more than we can say for the rest of the cast who all lean towards physical or magical damage.

If I am wrong about Aerith then she goes in over Yuffie. I haven't played for a while so I was thinking she was hiding something about cloud's life from him too. Oh well if not I know for a fact Tifa was. It is kind of funny Barret's even questions the story and she is like shut up. ( well she didn't say that, but I can assumed she wanted to)

Effectively yes. Japanese Tifa uses a much more feminine register when speaking and the nature of the language allows you to express that constantly without even needing to slow the game pacing down for exposition into her inner thoughts. Another great example where this comes up is Red XIII, where the pronouns he uses to refer to himself when he doesn't think anyone is listening suggest he's actually a child. English audiences will learn that 70% of the way through disc 1 when it's flat out told to us in Cosmo Canyon. Japanese speakers realize this much earlier when they hear him speak in an unguarded moment (I believe you overhear him talking in his sleep).

Compared to Tifa Aeris is worldly, assertive, pretty quick on the uptake (she knows something's wrong with Cloud almost immediately from past experience), and probably the most emotionally mature party member. Barrett and Cid might be older, but they're both emotionally stunted by past traumas and this prevents them from being honest with themselves. Aeris is there for the adventure and the fun (and because she can't go home, because Shinra is hunting her), because she's all about keeping your head up and moving forward instead of beating yourself up mentally.

It's a cool bait and switch, since everything from the character archetype (healer) to her design (a pink dress) to her relation to the main character (apparent love interest) would have you think it's the other way around. Sadly forgotten by everything that came afterwards. But there is no inner conflict in Aeris, and that inner conflict is what makes Tifa interesting.
