What I usually see people do is side with the church against Edelgard the first time through the Black Eagles story, then do a second playthrough on that route (after clearing both of the other houses' stories as well) and side with Edelgard the second time. I've heard a lot of fans consider the route where you side with Edelgard as the "true ending" anyways, so saving it for last makes sense.

Fair enough. If you only plan on playing the Black Eagles route one time (or only beating the game at all one time) then siding with Edelgard in that one playthrough makes sense.

Yeah. There's enough info drip to let people realize what happened especially if you do the paralogue but I was still kinda surprised.

I managed to put together who Rhea actually is before she spelled it out as well.

Blue Lions campaign doesnt explain much of anything lore wise (besides the Tragedy of Duscur), its more character driven. Golden Deer and the Church route are apparently the lore dumps.

That's not true. I recruited Ashe after the timeskip. I don't know under what conditions it's possible however because I wasn't given that option with anything else.

That option only exists if you had recruited them pre-timeskip as far as I've seen. Ashe, Lorenz, and a few others will always leave after the skip, unless youre playing their initial houses route, so they give you the option to get them back. If they weren't in your house already you just kill them

Edelgard is evil, TC. Remember those bandits at the beginning who were hired to kill the kids? Who do you think hired them? Remember Jeralt and the students being turned into demonic beasts? Who do you think gave the order? The war post time skip that has resulted in the death of countless numbers of people. Who started that war? Bitch needs to be put down.

Ashe left on my golden deer run, Lorenz left on my church run (didn't recruit Ashe and was not given option to spare/recruit post timeskip), etc...

Who leaves might be route dependant but I've never been given the option to recruit post skip without having recruited them pre skip first

Could be that B support pre skip is enough to trigger the option but I definitely had B with Ashe in my church run and was not given the option whereas when I had him recruited in Golden Deer I did get the option

You definitely need to do Golden Deer then, where recruiting everyone sounds the most feasible. Claude and pals are basically the closest thing to a classic FE protagonist that fights with the power of friendships (and schemes). Ok well Claude doesn't actually fight with friendship. He's more of a realist that values influence and power, but still, it doesn't feel too off-beat if you recruit everybody in GD, whereas in BE, I dunno why half the people would be on Edel's side

Ironically, I feel like if Edelgard just went up to Claude and was like "hey, look, here's this shit I found and I need to deal with it, want to help?" He'd probably have agreed and everything Edelgard wanted to do could have been accomplished without murdering thousands of people.

I mean, they give pretty good reasons for the most part when you talk to them in the camp before the time skip. 5 years later, some of them may have reservations but its not like they can just desert and go back home.

Yeah if Edel cut her connection with Those who Slither in the Dark and joined Claude, both people probably would've gotten exactly what they want. In fact Edel ruling Fodlan instead of Byleth at the GD ending after they resolve everything would've been what Claude would've done anyways.

I still don't want a golden ending DLC though. I kinda wanna see Claude in a more classic FE adventure in Almyra as a DLC instead. They can bring in Hilda's brother who we literally never get to see lmao, Cyril, actually playable Judith and Nardel, new chars in Almyra.

Claude's personality is such that there were people who had pretty good reasons to not fight for him decided to do so anyway specifically because they trusted in his ability to lead all of Fodlan to the best outcome.

Specifically, Lorenz and Marianne should have been like "nope, peace out" as soon as the war broke out but they stayed anyway.

Yeah they make it convincing enough. But it's more like some of them wouldn't really fight their former friends at full power I think. In BE, if you recruit Felix and use him, he kinda becomes something of a crazy lunatic, killing his friends and family just to prove his power lol... Even his enemies call him out on it. I know BE is the "villain" route but no matter how weird Felix is, I just don't find it convincing that he would go that far.

most importantly, Claude and Edelgard both do not like the church of seiros, at all. Or rather, specifically, his problem is with Rhea.

I'd envision the "perfect" ending being:

1. Rhea retires / Goes into hibernation with Sethet and Flaynn, Byleth takes over as the new Ecclesastical leader and changes the dogma of the church of seiros to be more of what Claude wants.
2. Claude abdicates control of the Alliance to the Empire, and the Kingdom is Annexed (I don't really see Dimitri cooperating with any of this)
3. Claude goes on to become a leader in Almyra, and using Byleth as a bridge, forges an alliance between the (now) Fodlan Empire and Almyra.
4. Those who slither + Nemesis are defeated and all the crest stones are destroyed.

Rhea is out for revenge. Her conquest doesn't really intersect with Edelgard or anyone else except for where Edelgard insists it does because she's trying to destroy the church.

Rhea doesn't really care about the church, it was just a means to an end.

But Edelgard never asked her if she'd be willing to step down and let her take up the mantle of revenge in her stead. I'm sure they could have worked it out if they had actually just trusted each other.

Wyvern Lord is basically the best for everyone except Claude who should use unique class. Female magicians should also use gremory. Axes are basically OP as fuck in this game and anyone who will be fighting in melee range and can use one should. If someone can't use them and they're female, make them a falcon Knight.

Male Magic users will want to eventually head down to Holy Knight and Dark Knight. Dark Mage / Bishop get the mastered ability for those classes and then bail ASAP to Dark Knight.

Bow Knight is good on some people like Bernadetta and Shamir. Warmaster is basically made for Raphael. Heavy armor sucks in this game avoid it completely including great Knight unless you're just doing it for fun.

Swordmaster isnt great, only 5 mov means theyll fall behind everybody else and will be mostly useless unless you purposefully take turns to wait around with everyone else and catch them up/feed them kills. Most sword classes are bad, Assassin is probably the best sword class though, 6 mov, no terrain movement penalties, lethality paired with huge dex growth, bow growths, etc... Swords are the worst weapons in the game

If youre going for "optimal" basically make every physical unit either a wyvern lord or bow knight, every offensive mage a dark knight, any dedicated healers a bishop (only use healers with physic), and then have a dancer

Nah. Lances are worse than swords. They have less speed, no Levin Sword / Bolt Axe equivalent, all for a negligible increase in accuracy and damage over swords.

Assassin is better than swordmaster but non-canto units in this game are bad in general.
