If you found out your partner couldnt have kids, would that be a dealbreaker?

What if you were dating, but it wasnt a serious relationship yet? Would you end things?

I never wanted kids, but ex wife convinced me into having one. Tried getting fixed but doctors refused, saying I was too young

My Wife convinced me to have another baby, and I finally got a doctor who was willing to do the surgery.

Never would have been a deal breaker for me. I love my kids but I tried not having any for a long time.

All of the above, here.

I'm kind of surprised so many people here are anti-kids considering how often society seems geared towards forcing couples into marriage and then married couples into having kids, but that's always been my stance.

I actually told my gf on our second date that I was adamantly against both marriage and having kids, so if either of those things were going to be dealbreakers, she should consider moving on. Fortunately, she wasn't keen on it either (in her precise words, she didn't want something growing in her stomach like an alien), so nigh on 20 years later we're still together, unmarried, without kids.

A major deal-breaker, yes. While there are surrogates, etc, I would specifically want both of our bloodlines to combine.

One reason why I don't rely on being "likely infertile" myself. My mom was supposedly infertile and here I am.

I dont think so. I know people who only really change their mind on having a kid once its on the way. Maybe its the same for you. People who dont want kids may have many reasons. I dont think theyll really regret it as long as they live a good life. Its possible, sure. But I think people usually know what they want.

This is very untrue for many people. People change over the course of decades. Everyone has regrets when they get older. Either way, I never said everyone will regret it. I'm quite sure many wont. Having a good relationship with an SO would probably help a lot. But anyway, it's quite well documented (mostly in women) that a lack of children is a fairly common regret. Also, studies have shown that many people who don't want children feel the way they do because of unsatisfying home lives when they were children.

It's not really surprising to me that a lot of people regret not having children when they get older. As you get older, people tend to be more family oriented and arent actively pursuing their life goals or dreams anymore. And if they're unmarried, there's probably some loneliness there that might be alleviated by children

That's pretty unfair. Alot of people do end up regretting not having kids or having kids later in life.

Sure, the opposite is also true but he didn't say anything wrong.

Idk. That still sounds like people know what they want. People can change their minds on what they want. So, they didnt want kids when they were younger. And when they get older, they change their mind and decide they want kids. Technically, they can still get them. And people do regret things, but you can regret anything. You can regret not eating more of a specific food before it was all gone and such. So, maybe youll have some regrets. But I dont think itll always be that much. Maybe like a little itch or something. But Idk. I can only speak about what Ive seen. I just know a lot of people didnt want kid. And then as soon as they knocked someone up, they wanted them...

People who understand that without children, the human species can't continue. Sure, a lot of dumb dumbs have kids but a lot of pseudo-smart don't and that's a good thing.
