You are right in one thing. There is some good music, it just doesn't get the spot light.

Mostly because now anyone with a musical vision can have it realized and heard by other people through the internet, so you hear a lot of creative stuff

this, when people think of music today they usually just think of like mainstream top 40 stuff or whatever and say "wow this sucks listen to all the different music we had back in the day!" or something, but there is music of pretty much every genre being made today and with newer/better instruments and techniques and technology etc. the only thing is that you have to look for it yourself but it's out there and it's great

There hasn't been a bad decade of music, it's forever changing and music from the last decade leaves an imprint.

I listen to Hip Hop & R&B and I say shit yeah. Of course, my taste changed through the years so I don't hold the older shit in as high of regard as I use to either. Most the stuff I listen to is on the radar but not in your face at all. Gotta do very minor digging.

Modern popular music is horrendous. And popular music has the broadest net of appeal and therefor influences young folk the most. Skill takes a backseat to image almost 100% and it's fucking all but annihilated R&B.

But accessibility keeps the underground healthier than ever, it's almost over saturated. Though I still think R&B is dead..

There was probably good music written by people who we have never heard of 30 to 400 years ago.

You and Me by Penny and the Quarters sat in a record studio for 40 years until Ryan Gosling's ass found it and wanted it in a movie of his. Ended up being featured in a Oreo commercial and blew up.

There's definitely a bunch of great songs that are dead written by unknowns that we'll never get to enjoy.

I like her btw, though I prefer Julien Baker. Had an edible before one of her shows and it was an awesome performance. Pure emotion when she sings.

The 80s was the best pop decade, but since it's so easy to listen to everything now, it's not unreasonable to consider this the best. It's just that the radio sucks.

No. There is no real quality filter these days. Everyone can have a soundcloud or youtube channel full of over produced mumbling or over sampling other songs. You have to wade through torrents of shit to find anything decent.

Then on the big scene, its the same tired shit over and over. Modern pop and rap and all that all suffer from the over use of samples from other songs or drowning out lyrics with fake instruments and computer generated sounds pumped in during post editing. I hate it
