The people who usually give the completed in short time lengths always feel like they rushed it to me. I always hear people complain about something being short when completing it in the first day, but they everyone else takes a while. And they always ended up rushing it, not exploring anything, and missing a bunch of stuff. And I'm not saying your friends definitely did, but maybe. But it's all about what you get out of it. I feel like it'll take me much longer to go around exploring, talking to people, and stuff like that. I don't like to blast through games as fast...

I heard around 30 hours

Either way thats still incredibly short for this type of game. When I play a game like this I want it to take me 100 hours atleast on my first play through

Is this game open world like Fallout? If it is, story completion time isn't that big of a deal.

Thats what Im wondering as well. On games like those and Elder Scrolls, I usually tend to wait to finish the story until I finish as much side stuff as I can

I guess some people just speed through the main quests though

I do that, too. That's what actually keeps me from finishing some games, though...

You can complete the main story in Skyrim in like 5 hours if that's all you do.

the outer worlds is NOT an open world game like fallout or skyrim. allot of people assume since its made by the creators of fallout and the team of nv, that its going to replicate it. it doesn't.

the game is not meant to be 300+ hours like fo and tes. provided you do nothing but rush the main story of course it's not going to last very long.

a lot of extremely long games have "short" main story quests, doesnt mean they dont have a lot of content. you can finish skyrim's main story in that amount of time or throw in 150+ hours to do everything. TOW from what i gather is around 30-40hours, but a lot of its content is designed around choice so the replay value in alternate builds and story choices bumps up its actual content amount beyond that.

Sounds like the sort of people who say they beat skyrim in a couple hours while I played it for over 100 hours before ever actually finishing the main story.

I haven't played Outer Worlds, but I know it's made by Obsidian so it shouldn't be the sort of game where you just rush your way through the main story.

I spent like ten hours on the first planet. I guess if you don't explore, do side missions etcetc it's short. But that's basically speed running.

it isnt an open world exploration game like Bethesda makes. that comparison was always wrong.

it's actually fairly linear.

the proper comparison is to alpha protocol.

The fastest run in New Vegas is something like 20 minutes.

Depends on how you define "main story".

If you just mean the dragon plot with Alduin and nothing else, you could probably beat it in a few hours max if you speed run dungeons (ie, just go straight to the end without wasting time looting). It's really only a dozen shortish quests or so.

I mean if you do the main story on the first world (the first time), it's about 10 hours all by itself, and you still have a ton to do when you come back.

I'd say 30 is rushing it (actually playing and not just trying to end it asap), and 40 is probably around average (a guess, as i certainly have not finished it yet). I'm betting my FIRST run will be 50-60 hours total.

Each run after that will be far less i'm sure, but still at least 30 hours, just because I actually want to enjoy playing the different character builds (also a melee run is going to be harder...so that may require me to still do lots of side quests etc to level up).

No matter what I'll play through as good (mostly) and then as truly evil, kill everything, which means I'll get 100+ hours out of the game, and at this point it looks like I'll actually finish it (unlike so many other games lately) at least once.

It's a good game in my opinion, and even if it was only 20 hours, as long at it was a fun 20 hours I'd be happy.

Yeah, I don't get that at all, you can maybe..barely get through the second area in 13 hours.....if you focus on doing only the main quest lines.

12-40 hours is what the developers said in one of their interviews. It all depends on how much you decide to do along the way.

I feel like you're confusing "story" with "exploit based on prior game knowledge", but you do you.

Benny isn't even the story.

Kind of depends on which faction you follow. For House/Yes Man he's sort of a mid-game boss sort of deal, and for Legion he can be a bit more significant (if you lose him at the Tops and he flees to the Fort), but you can go NCR and literally never interact with him again outside of the intro cutscene.

I meant he isn't the whole story, he's pivotal to the first half but is of little importance unless you do a Yes Man route.

I exaggerated a bit in the last post.

He isn't even pivotal to the first half if you don't feel like chasing him down to get revenge/get the chip back.

You can basically wander around doing random stuff in random places, occasionally helping the NCR or whoever, and then trigger the second act just by going to New Vegas itself for whatever reason. At which point you can basically be like, "Oh yeah, that's right, Benny exists."

You don't need to talk to anyone in Primm about him, and you can basically skip the interactions in Novac and Boulder City prior to entering the Tops (if you even bother to enter the Tops at all). Like I said, if you're doing an NCR run you literally never need to see him again, and the other runs just need you to spend about 2 minutes to kill him and get the chip back.

Like you say Yes Man involves a bit more (you need to investigate what Benny's plan was to find Yes Man), but even that can mostly be ignored if you don't care.
