Didn't they already confirm online trading existing when they said you could put up flags or whatever while in the wild area to say you're looking to trade/battle

That was just my guess since theres no other reason I can think of to freak out over GTS not being a thing

If trading with other people is like it's been in every other gen with online, it's going to be pointless to trade with random people because there's no way to communicate. The GTS is useful for getting what you want, whereas direct trading is basically a less random wonder trade.

oh man I really hope they bring back the b/w trading where you had to communicate by presenting what you wanted to trade and communicating with five emojis. That was the best.

Me and my ex-wife bred hundreds of lilleeps and competed to see how many we could trade out to other people. Hands down the best time I ever had playing pokemon.

I didnt know that since I had quit using it altogether before then. I remember trying to get Feebas through it once which is a huge pain to catch sure, but damn near everyone wanted Darkrai or Shaymin or something for it

what if I have no friends or do not want to interact with them

No but seriously I liked the GTS as a low effort trading method without having to coordinate a 1 on 1 trade. Once they made it actually bearable to use in gen 5 or 6 or whatever it was super good to easily trade exclusives for exclusives or starters. If you had stuff that was more annoying to get that you had to Bank in too it was also useful. I used it all the time! Honestly surprised more people didn't.

I even had success using it for event Pokemon and legendaries because I had a small pile of Jirachi I cloned all the way back in gen 3. This is clearly healthy and how Masuda intended people to interact with the game.

There are so many active trade forums all over the place now that I'm not gonna really miss the GTS if it is actually gone, especially since there's currently too few unobtainable Pokemon to really need it.

The thing about the GTS is because so many people are using it in the first few months, all the reasonable requests for desired Pokemon get snapped up near instantly, leaving only the bad ones. You just gotta refresh a bunch (it updates like every 30 second or so, I forget) and have fast reflexes when a good offer comes along.

Otherwise, you know, just put something good up of your own asking for what you want.

Breeding starters for trade was always a hot commodity on the gts.

Yeah, starters and anything that's a pain to get like Feebas and Spiritomb was gold on the GTS.

Oh yeah searching works sometimes if you want something immediately but there's so much chaff. Put up a starter and you were basically guaranteed to get something in a matter of hours, a day max.

Even imgur is not safe from the Nintendo Ninjas. I've heard of reports of some leaked images on imgur getting deleted, but I don't know any specific imgur URLs that were targeted.

Hopefully they have at least improved things such as it not asking you to save two seconds after you just did. Maybe being able to turn off it asking you for photos.

There's no Rotomdex in Sword/Shield, but it does have Rotom Phone instead.

Yeah and there's a new held item that boosts Sp. Attack when you use a sound-based move too.

Oh right, the leaker posted screenshots of a bunch of old Pokemon in the Battle Tower, but the only one that seemed to have different stats was Aegislash. It looked like its defenses were nerfed down to 140 each (and also likely its offenses, but we only saw shield stance).

Wasn't the text data for every Pokemon still in Let's Go, just lacking models and things?

I know GF said they don't plan on doing updates to add big swathes of Pokemon back, but I don't think that necessarily means they won't have events planned to bring in just a few extras. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a Mewtwo Gigantamax model was found or something like that.

im like 100% sure theres at least one new Pokmon theyre saving for events like a Mew... I definitely wouldnt be surprised if there are some more old legendaries in the game too

I would think that there are some amount of event Pokemon, Gigantomax forms, and maybe a few extra Pokemon that they are planning to releaze slowly, but if we are still on the "one major game per year" cycle I don't really see them patching in a whole bunch.

If we're lucky the backlash will give GF an incentive to make SwSh more compatible with whatever comes out next than how XY/ORAS were, but I won't hold my breath.

So far, there's been only minor compatibility issues between the different games in each generation when it comes to battling and trading. With SM and USUM, it means that SM players can't battle online with USUM players if the USUM player is using a team that contains a USUM exclusive Pokemon (like the new Ultra Beasts) or one of the new Z-Crystals on one of their Pokemon. The new Pokemon introduced in USUM also couldn't be traded to SM either.

Compatibility issues will become a much more serious problem now that each new Pokemon game won't have the entire roster of every known Pokemon up to that point. If we got DPP remakes during this generation, that creates serious compatibility issues with Sword/Shield because the DPP remakes will have to support the entire roster of new Pokemon introduced in Gen 4. There's no way the DPP remakes will be able to stick with the exact same roster of Pokemon used in Sword/Shield for compatibility reasons as it means the Gen 4 starters would be missing from that game. This is more of a problem with online battles than with trading.
