You can access the Wi-Fi system at nearly any time, I think. Put a Pokemon up for trade and all that jazz. I don't keep close tabs on the online components of Pokemon games though so I can't give you particulars.

I'd be cautious about that. I'm looking forward to the Sinnoh remakes as well but I fear the complexities of the region will be streamlined to heck and back by modern Game Freak. I do enjoy more recent Pokemon games but their worlds are getting simpler and simpler to traverse every generation and I miss the days when the reverse was true.

I really want to replay HeartGold/SoulSilver too but I just don't have the cash to go drop $70-$150 for a used copy.

I like the Sinnoh region quite a lot, and Platinum really adds a ton to D/P. Lots of nice QoL improvements (battles arent like trudging through molasses anymore), and just a bunch of extra content. The post-game stuff is really meaty. And Cynthia best champion.

As far as I can tell, Wonder Trade is still there (under a new name) and there's some kind of code-swapping system that lets you trade with a specific person. Apparently it's like Let's Go Eevee but I don't know what its trade system is like so idk.

GTS was like... everything I would have ever wanted from an online trade system (okay maneuvering in it sucked but otherwise!) and I was so happy to see it when I picked up Ultra Sun.

I remember Cynthia being great. And I recall how molasses-slow Diamond and Pearl were, yeah. A lot of long-time fans these past few years seem to have been cementing their opinions that the DS era was Pokemon's best, but that has always meant Platinum->HGSS->BW->BW2; there's a reason DP are left off, I guess.

How much does Platinum have postgame-wise in terms of routes/areas/trainers to battle? That's always been my jam. BW2 are great about this.

I've seen lots of footage of an icon at the bottom-right of the screen that lets players access online functionality at any time. But yeah, I barely know what made GTS so great; I've probably done online stuff with Pokemon for less than an hour of my life despite playing every game except Crystal and Platinum. lol

put up a pokemon for trade and request what you're looking for and that's it. you go back to whatever you're doing or even stop playing and if someone makes the trade you go back to it and you got what you want.

and of course the reverse applies too, you could search for a pokemon and see if any are up and what people are asking for them

It was amazing for version exclusives. If I picked up one I could offer it up for another version exclusive in Ultra Moon and the trade usually happened in an hour. You could also set more conditions like a level range of what you want but I never bothered with all that, it was always about filling the Pokedex for me.

Ahh, yeah, that does sound pretty cool. Sorry it's gone! Truly. The collecting aspect has never really been my draw but that would have helped a ton if it were.

Theres like 7 extra routes, a handful of extra dungeons, the Battle Frontier, extra legendaries to catch, of course. Its a lot. I dont remember exactly how much of it is carry over from D/P off the top of my head though. Battle Frontier is definitely Platinum exclusive though.

Using glasses Rean because he looks way better that way (dunno what the characters who said he couldn't pull them off were smoking...).

Also, stacking up Evasion quartz and accessories on Kurt, paired with his Master Quartz that allows him to do several times more damage with counters has made him a beast at close range.

I assume the cult that Ennea was from is the DG cult but the only thing that has me questioning that is she lacks the golden eyes that the other known survivors have. They say she was an assassin though so maybe she wasn't part of the experiment groups but like the daughter of a cult member? Unless the whole assassin thing is meant to imply she's from Moonlight Horse but it would be weird for Sharon to leave that part out when she was explaining the members Ouroboros took in.

Finished the sixth Baccano light novel last night. So many characters and interweaving plotlines, it's like I'm playing a Trails game! Most of the book covered the events of just a single day, to boot!

Whew, done with Bryonia Island, so I'm almost finished with day 2. That was quite the sequence at the end there.

I logged a solid 4.5 hours with Pokmon Shield last night before turning off the Switch and heading to bed. A darling game thus far! The starter town areas are pretty. The Pokmon variety has been strong. The music is banging and the British slang is intentionally over the top which is good because it ought to be.

Im digging the Wild Area a lot but man the performance is terrible at least while connected to the net. Its cool seeing other players and getting items from them and such but I dont know if its worth abrupt 15-frames-per-second crawling! Hopefully that gets tidied up at least a little bit over time.

The things about this game that Im familiar with as core complaints are things Ive not yet encountered. In particular, Im bracing for all the short and totally linear routes, lack of dungeons, and above all, too-swift fifth through eighth badges. I can only hope that this stuff doesnt bug me! But that last bit, speaking as someone who plays these games for their sense of wanderlust adventure, will likely detract from my score in the final telling.

Yeah, End of Day 2 is when Chapter 3 goes into overdrive and then it just stays there for the rest of the chapter.

As for me, I just finished the Keep Training for Chapter 4 and the scenes following leaving it. So I haven't done anything in the evening phase yet.

Praise Renne for convincing the others to let Tita come to Thors and allow her to be a guest character! But seriously, the Tita/Renne friendship is so adorable. Glad to see Renne has finally found some happiness. Tita joining Tio in the "robbed of their S-Craft club" wow this is now a coordinated effort to pick on the science characters. Schimdt had some nice scenes too reflecting back on Alisa's dad as well as with Tita.

Aww yeah Fie, Sara, Laura, and Victor coming for a visit. I kind of wish Aurelia v Victor could have been extended somehow. Aurelia winning at everything as usual. She literally had glasses made for her to act as a power limiter to nerf her vision. How is she the best character in every scene she's in lmao. Also, huh, McBurn really messed Victor up at the Infernal Castle I guess. Assuming we're going to West Heimdallr specifically to continue on our "places Group B went in CS1" tour. (west) Heimdallr and Jurai are the only places left after Chapter 3.

Altina's Chapter 4 Bond Event was really sweet. I also noticed while save/loading to check them all outt hat Ash's actually adds a few lines referencing the limo Rean takes to Heimdallr on Jusis's Bond event which is pretty cool. Unfortunately I had to drop Jusis's event (and Gaius's) here for Altina/Juna/Ash/Towa. Towa's event was sweet enough to beat out Jusis's since it wasn't the strongest.

Also check out Rean with the mind games in that Stark quest where he goes like 4th-level strategy on Crow's coin trick.

Yeah, you basically have to savescum to see all the bonding event scenes in one playthrough, especially if you're trying to fill out the profiles in the notebook.
