Yeah, oddly enough it's also had a negative impact on women looking to marry as well. Higher caliber men (high status/success/intelligence) tend to be harder to convince into settling down with marriage today. Before the turn of the century the prenup USED TO BE a go-to for reassuring those men that their assets were safe if the marriage fell apart. And for a time it worked. Some women eager to get hitched to a successful man could have convinced him to finally propose by agreeing to a prenup, which still had merit back then.

Thanks to the western legal system casually dismissing or tossing out prenups in a multitude of documented cases (including the wealthy and powerful), prenups lost their former credibility. They're no longer treated as a "guarantee" among educated successful men anymore. And guarantees are what most educated successful men are looking for with long term investments...including marriage.

This has has contributed to the modern woman's difficulty in reeling in an intelligent husband with success under his belt because that very caliber of man would likely be one of the most aware that a prenup is now worthless.

The economy is competitive, so you're not going to see as many wealthy men as in the past, because now women also compete. And the wealthy men who remain aren't always going to date wealthy women; they don't value career status as often, so they're just as likely to date lower earning women instead. Get used to it or do without, this isn't the worst problem to have in dating.

Too bad for those women. If they've got good careers & are making money, then they shouldn't need to find some well off guy to support them.

Things like this are why a lot of guys perceive women to be gold diggers.
Right, those women are gold diggers for wanting men with stable jobs and no crazy debt. How terrible.

I have a career and make good money, I dont need a man to support me but I need one to contribute his fair share. Seems like some men want to be the gold diggers now and women arent buying it.

There's a LITTLE merit to the idea, since having a good income does exhibit ambition and commitment.

I think it's definitely overstated in importance, especially to romantic relationships, though.

yes. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Men like looks, women like status.
Men care about boob size, women care about height.
Men care about weight, women care about muscles.

We just have to accept that none of the 2 genders should be in a pedestal

Glad I didn't have to come in to post common sense. People live to villianize being attracted to things. It's ridiculous. Unless you are a bi, no age limit for those of legal age, don't care about looks, job, status, etc. You just need to accept you are also "shallow" and being attracted to certain things doesn't automatically make you a bad person. It's crazy who acceptable it has become to vilify people for being attracted to things that have been the case through all of history. Glad I live in a country where this attitude hasn't spread much yet.

The mistake you along with all the critics are making in this topic is that you're treating each of these as issues independently. When you raise the standards for women, for instance their salary, their expectations for suitable men will also increase. They make 60K, they want a guy within that range, and for those who want to marry up, guys need to have much higher salaries. Given that guys and gals are competing for the same jobs, this makes things more difficult for guys to achieve. Couple this with the difficulty of the dating game where the top 20% of guys get most of the attention and we're seeing a scenario where guys are losing their self-worth to the point of flat out giving up on themselves and the world. As a result, MGTOW, inceldom, and suicides (as mentioned before in this topic) are on the rise.

It's not as straightforward as you make it out to be. Far from it.

But gold digging women will continue to attract successful men. So it creates an uneven dynamic where there's a shortage of successful men for successful women to date. Doesn't mean that men are slacking, just that women have higher standards on this matter.

There's nothing we can do about this beyond increasing the acceptance for the romantically ostracized, though. It's not like we can turn back the clock on standards.

This topic is very complex.

Marriage laws were devised when men worked and men were not a part of the workforce at all. The priority was protecting women, since the risk was that they'd marry a man and then he could be abusive or dump her when she got old and she'd probably become poor or homeless, since, again, women were not part of the workforce.

That is why when you marry your house is now her house too, and your hard earned money is her money too now. If you win the lottery after marriage she won it too!

But things have changed. Women are now part of the workforce. We have CEO women. Congressmen women. Attorney women. And stats are showing that women now outnumber men in higher education enrollment. Adding to this, the occupations that most men would traditionally occupy, such as manual labor, are going away.

We have marriage law fit for the pre-Mad Men era, while living in a post-F.R.I.E.N.D.S. world. Of course men don't want to marry.

Prenups used to help with this, but in these tumblr times, now prenups don't work too.

Have you really seen this?

There's a huge societal stigma against stay at home dads and the like, and even in the dating scene, if a guy is making say, 70k and the woman is making say, 90k, even if she doesn't mind that (spoiler alert: most mind!) her close relatives and close friends will nudge her to "upgrade". It will begin as jokes, such as "maybe it's about time you date someone who can take you to a proper anniversary dinner? ;) " and then it will get a bit more blatant, such as "hey! My friend/relative Bruce is coming to the party too! You guys have soooooo much in common, you should totally catch up!".

I'm sure what you're saying happens, I just don't think it's the norm or common.

The way zoomers and millennials love destroying bigots' lives (or even people who said or did something bigoted when facing duress or put in an uncomfortable situation) through digital vigilantism and the like -- why can't they exhibit even a fraction of that passion towards fighting classism?
Why do people think this is okay or the norm, or just accept it?
Shame people who overemphasize status - people who make classist remarks, believe in caste systems, gold dig, only want partners who make more than them, etc.

What remains untouched, is that men apparantly are struggling. Be it with education or jobs, but they are falling behind.

Yet women are the victim here.

I fucking can't.

I think that the powers that be in society see an inevitable turn towards a female-centric society and adjust accordingly.

Manual labor, blue collar jobs, etc are on their way out (typically male job), physical fighting is no longer relevant, and not even cops need any physicality anymore (they all have pull-trigger death machines that they're too quick to fire at anyone), so what's the economic value (to the "powers that be") in men now?

It's no coincidence that woke culture has been too harsh on men in the last 10 years. James Bond? REEEEEEEEEEE. Batman? REEEEEEEEEEEE. YAAASSSS queen captain marvel slay!

As china gains economic power, the car industry began gravitating towards china (fun fact - china is the sole reason Buick still exists), and as women become the most important economic (spending) block, society has begun gravitating towards them as well.

It's all market forces
