Do you support the pardoning of these war criminals?

This was the moment 34 y/o Army 1st Lt. Clint Lorance was released from Prison after he was PARDONED by Trump and was reunited with his family as they awaited for him outside.

He only spent 6 years of his 19 years sentencce as he beamed while walking out in full uniform just hours after the Pardon for his war crimes.

He was convicted of 2nd degree murder after he ORDERED his soldiers under his command to OPEN FIRE on 3 UNARMED Innocent afghan men on motorcycles, including 2 who died in 2012 as his supproters maintain those were "enemy combatants"

The Pennsylvania freak stepped out of anSUV that transported him from a notorious maximum security military prison as his family members SCREAMED tears of joy when they saw him

He said "It feels great. I want to say thank you to President Trump. And i'd like to ask the rest of the country to help me do that too, to tell President Trump thank you for believing in me"

As his family struggled to compose themselves, he asked them "I hear y'all have some pizza around here somewhere?" a female family member says "We do have pizza!" as they all burst into laughter

Clint said he spoke briefly with Trump and said he sounded just like he did on tv and the phone and that he was a "pretty funny guy"

He said "I just wanted to join the Army and go be a soldier. I didn't realize all of this was gonna happen, it's kind of overwhelming for a country boy from the middle of nowhere"

He changed his FB banner to SUPPORT PRESIDENT TRUMP'S 2020 reelection campaign

He was sentenced to 19 years in the big house and forfeiture of all pay and dismissal from the army after prosecutors said he recklessly ordered his men to open fire on afghan men in July 2012 who were on motorcycles after approaching his patrol.

They said he was in violation of the military's rule of engagement that requires soldieres to hold fire unless there's evidence of hostile action as the men were found NOT to be terrorists

Lorance was one of the 3 men pardoned as Army major Mathew Golstyn, a former Green Beret accusedof killing a suspected bomb maker who he believed was the one responsible for an explosion that killed 2 US marines as he believed that man wa a "legal target" because of his behaiour

This comes after Edward Gallagher, a NAVY SEAL was found not guilty for murdering a 16 y/o captive as Trump also pressured the jury to not convict him but he was reduced in rank and lost up to 200,000 in retirement funds but Trump also pardoned him and he is now eligible to receive these funds. He also thanked the President and said they are grateful to have a president who stands up for warfighters and cares about how they are treated.

Trump said after intervening in Golsteyn's case "We train our boys to be killing machines, then prosecute them when they kill??"

Hina Shamsi, director of the ACLU said ths was an utter shameful use of presidential powers and said Trump sent a clear message of disrespect for law, morality and military justice and those who abide by the laws of war

Do you support the pardoning of these war criminals?

It's straight up stupid that a president can just pardon criminals like that. Why is that even a thing?

Basically, because the constitution is lazy and simply grants the power for the president to pardon any federal crimes when it should be more nuanced

Stuff like this is why an independent, international tribunal for war criminals exist.

If you mean the Hague, it's pretty much exclusively devoted to punishing warlords from third-world nations. It has even less power than the UN.

I'm pretty sure that what happens when a convict is pardoned. I don't believe they remain imprisoned.

The branches of our government were designed to have checks on them from the other branches of government. The executive being able to pardon is a check on the Judicial branch. In case they wrongfully imprisoned someone, for example. Or if the judges opinion or objective influenced an unfair trial.

Governors within states can also pardon people too, for example.

Trump's reasoning is just plain stupid. You don't train soldiers to kill indiscriminately; you train them to fight confirmed enemy combatants or supporters.

What if someone gets framed? I like that a president (and governors) can pardon people seeing as it's usually for innocent/overly prosecuted people

Infinitely more solid than the comment it rebutted.

Uh, no, they hate us for being there in the first place. The alleged wrongful deaths -- and the worst of them are shielded by the anonymity of the drone program -- are a drop in the bucket. However, even if we weren't involved, they'd hate us for not getting involved.

It's even more fundamental than that, but sure, you also have specific provisions.
