Debating whether or not to watch LoTR.

Excluding the credits:
Theatrical Edition
LoTR 1: 2 hours 58 minutes
LoTR 2: 2 hours 59 minutes
LoTR 3: 3 hours 20 minutes
Total: 9 hours 17 minutes

Extended Edition
LoTR 1: 3 hours 28 minutes
LoTR 2: 3 hours 43 minutes
LoTR 3: 4 hours 11 minutes
Total: 11 hours 22 minutes (+2 hours 5 minutes)

I never actually finished watching this... always stopped watching after an hour or so into it, but then again, I was much younger the last time I attempted. I enjoyed Game of Thrones, so I assume I'll enjoy LoTR.

Yeah for the first watchthrough. As much as I hear(or used to) people talk about how they wanna do LotR marathons on off days though, I don't think I could even make it halfway through.

Most of the extended stuff in Towers and Return is nonsensical book references that drags the pacing down and is worthless without the context it should have existed in.

Extended Fellowship has one scene that is pretty much essential for the story and some good stuff about the Hobbits early on.

Eh.

I've watched the trilogy three or four times, but I've never sat and watched them all in a day. I'll space them out over the course of a week. I just don't have the time to sit for half of a day watching movies.

I like them. I don't rewatch often though because it takes so much time.

I start losing track of the plot during Return but I think that's probably because of my ADD.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy are my favorite movies of all time. Definitely worth the 10 hour investment. They just don't make movies like them anymore.

So just watch the theater version?

Just watch the EE. If you enjoy the first hour or two of FotR, you'll appreciate the entire EE journey.

As a first time viewing I would absolutely discourage anyone from going with the EEs (again, except for Fellowship, but if you're getting versions in bulk then just take the theatrical of that as well). The added scenes are 95% fluff or references to book stuff that doesn't expand on stuff in the movies, hence why it was initially cut.

I chose to watch the extended version by the way.

One comment, from the 1st movie thus far:
Those Nazguls are weak as fuck. They're hyped up like crazy, and literally fire scares them away (Strider with a torch literally fights like five of them off) and so does water.

This. I only watch extended now, but theatrical is better to watch first. The third movie has an awesome scene the trio arrive with the ghosts that is somewhat spoiled in the extended version.

I only liked the second one tbh. The first was way too long and should've been 2 hours max, the third felt like it only had like an hour worth of worthwhile content.

So at the end, when Boromir tried to take the ring, Frodo wore the ring. How come the Nazguls and the super Orcas didn't fixate where he was and go get the ring?
