Now there are weekend Nexus missions, ship upgrades along with MP, VR and other additions made a while ago. It has totally filled the void left by Dark Souls/Bloodborne for me. I found the MP meh, so I let PS+ lapse but it's there if you want it. You can trade, farm, do some mercenary stuff or nothing at all. I use my frieghter mostly for storage though. You can build up your freighter too. For me, the game is just exploration and following quests but people are doing all kinds of different stuff. If you choose to build a base it can be glass, wood, concrete or what I assume to be metal. If you go to the Anomaly, you can teleport to other people's bases that Hello Games wants to "showcase". About $10 million per slot. No encumbrance disadvantage.
