Like for an operation?

I haven't yet. And i've always wondered what the experience is like. Is it just like being asleep?

Yes, all I remember is them asking me to count to 20. Odd request, but okay. I don't remember anything past the number 6.

Yeah, for my wisdom teeth. It's like losing time. You're aware and then you're not and then you fade back into reality again.

Depends on how it's done. The best way I can describe it from my times doing it is this warm almost burning/cold sensation running through your veins as you eventually just... conk out and hopefully if it's done right you wake up in a sort of time skip. I don't recall any dreams and I'd hate to wake up too early or months down the road.

It's just completely lost time. With sleep, you know upon waking that you have been asleep and might remember some fragments of dreams, but this is just a time jump from them starting to put you under to regaining consciousness.

Also, you're probably gonna have some temporary memory loss for like half an hour.

4 times in a row now my doctor has told me in detail how it went when I got to the recovery room.

Not once have I ever remembered him doing it.

Yeah it is like you lose the time.

When you wake up you'll likely be confused as an hour could have gone by and the last thing you remember is a nurse saying 'this might feel a little warm'

I did when I got my wisdom teeth extracted. Was doing the count thing, heard the dentist start yelling about blood everywhere, and I knocked out before I could even process it

Woke up with a mouth full of cotton and completely disoriented.

i was put out for my wisdom teeth being taken out and it was a pretty cool experience
like, it literally is exactly how it is in tv/movies
i was pretty nervous at the time cause id never had anything like that done before, doc was trying to help me get my mind off it by being like "so what kinds of books do you like to read? :)" and i remember thinking aw man i cant tell this guy i read almost exclusively fanfiction, and while i was legit trying to think of a book to name he pats my shoulder and is like "see that wasnt so bad!"
like the transition is literally instant, it was so weird
sadly i didnt have any loopy side effects or anything i was just chillin on a couch afterwards like "man thats it? wtf"

Apparently when they knock you out for brain surgery, the anaesthetic actually keeps you awake so they can ask you questions and ensure that they haven't fucked up your mind. The effect is that when the drugs wear off, you don't remember the absolute fucking horror of having someone poking around in your brain-meat.

Twice

It's just lost time. Both times, they would ask me a question to get me talking, then next thing I know, I'm opening my eyes in another room an hour later. Very strange feeling.

I remember getting in to the surgery room but not anything past that, then waking up. It's not really good sleep, certain biological processes are reduced so you probably won't reach any dream stages. But the feeling of memory lapses when you do wake up is definitely strange. Better than getting blackout drunk at least, but a similar "snapping back and realizing you don't immediately know or remember how or why you're here" feeling.

I was told to count as high as I could, in my head, i thought fuck that I'm going to try and stay awake. At one point i thought to myself I'll just close my eyes for a second, then I woke up in the outpatient room. They were surprised at how early I woke up from the gas, but I tried to stand up and still couldn't do it lol so I went back to sleep for another hour.

I was put out for my wisdom teeth.

You inhale the gas, things get fuzzy for a split second, next thing you are cognizant of is coming to, about as quickly as waking up to an alarm, but not as jarring.

I remember it being a bit freaky when the anesthesia started taking effect. I vaguely recall it being psychedelic for a few seconds(Not that I have any actual experience with that....)

...and then I woke up after the procedure was over and done with. It felt like a brief moment, even though it was hours later.

Ive been put under 5 times this year alone. They always tell me to fast before and that I will have a delicate stomach after. But first thing I do when I wake up is have my husband drive me to get food and coffee. I told one of my doctors that and he was really shocked I could. I guess most people feel nauseous after? I just wake up hungry.

I did for my wisdom teeth removal (all 4) and you do black out pretty fast. I remember them injecting me with some cold liquid into my arm and feeling it run through my body. After that I was out within seconds and woke up on a bed. When I woke up my body kept shaking involuntarily for about half an hour and I thought something was wrong, but it eventually passed. They actually named this phenomenon and it's called postanesthetic shivering.

Oh no, what's caused the need to go under that many times? And honestly, since you have to fast at least 6 hours (usually 12+) before you can go under and you'll be out for the procedure and a little while afterwards, it's totally reasonable to feel hungry. Of course, if I get too hungry I get nauseous anyways. Woo. :l

Last time it was for my strabimus surgery few years ago. It was fun. I remember watching the clock on the wall and the nurse holding my hand for some reason then SNAP, I was awake in an instant in the recovery room. It was like time travel.

I've had to go under a few times after my accident. I remember being a foolish kid and trying to lift my head as I was going under - it resulted in this awful buzzing pain, like static in every damn neuron in my brain meats. I could still feel it when I came to, though it was quickly overshadowed by agonizing leg pain from the surgery.

3 times to do facet injections/ablation to my neck joints, once for an egg retrieval and once for a hysteroscopy. Nothing really major. But yeah I would assume most people would be hungry but my doc was saying most people are too nauseous and eat lightly. I go to In N Out or DQ lol

Yeah just once for wisdom teeth. It's so fucking weird. Guy didn't even tell me to count backwards. IV was in, they were getting ready and I actually asked "do I need to count backwards or anything?" (like others have said) and he was like no don't wo--

then I woke up loopy watching some weird educational video on how to prepare for the next few days, what to do, etc.
