So my 6yo laptop has a heating and battery problem. It'll overheat at the drop of a hat and the integrated battery is gone so it won't last more than 20 minutes off a charger >_> So my laptop overheated and shutdown, which happens pretty often. So I restart it but forgot to plug it into the wall. So as it was booting up, I guess the battery died and it instantly shut off.
So basically even though it's plugged in, everytime I press the power button, it lights up for 1 second and then shuts off. I'm not too worried about data cuz I backed up most of it, though I havent done a backup in 3 months >_> Im just trying to wait for the charge light to turn from orange to white and seeing what happens. Anyone help me with this please? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

check for more screws under stickersThis is your answer. That or the screws are under rubber feet. If you can ever get the HDD/SSD out of it, then just toss the laptop and buy a usb to drive cable so you can plug it up to another computer. Boom, you now have an external drive to carry around. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's been "charging" for like 3 hours now and still wont turn on and wont be fully charged >_>
It's weird. If it's plugged in and hit the power button it'll turn on for a second and then shut off. If I rapid fire the buttom it'll stay on even longer. But if it's unplugged, nothing happens when I hit it. If I had to guess, I think the computer thinks there's no power to it cuz the battery sucks that much. Maybe if I can replace the battery it'll work again. But if that doesn't do anything ill just have to extract the hard drive and get a new laptop then >_> --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

What did you think would happen when you were basically cooking it's insides every time you turned it on? You can pull the hard drive and get an external adapter for it and hopefully still have everything.

You can take the battery completely out and as long as its plugged in, itll still work. What happened is its overheated so much that its probably damaged the cpu chip itself. You can still tinker around with it all you want but dont get your hopes up. Take a hammer to it to get the drive out and drop the $5 to get the cable. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Sounds like the thermistor might be shot. It's a little electrical component that is sensitive to heat. If it gets too hot, it breaks. A safety feature to stop the computer overloading and combusting. Can't be fixed.
