If so, what do you play?

I'm lucky enough to work with some really talented musicians, I used to play bass with songs by early In Flames and Buckethead before passing on the bass to another guy so I could focus on the task as main vocalist.. pluss I sometimes play songs of different genres alone at small and medium sized shows with a semi-acoustic guitar.
Our largest gig was playing in front of over 400 people.

Oh, and I'm not even 1/10th of my bandmates talent. But I do an okay job as vocalist.

I also dabble in piano, electric guitar, the harmonica, violin and ukulele.

So what do you guys do? Are there a lot of musicians here on gamefaq? Do you aspire to learn how to play an instrument? Do you play in a band (maybe post a link of your band playing)?

Share the music! ^_^

Me and a couple friends play two or three times a week. I usually play lead guitar (usually acoustic) and do backing vocals, but I sometimes do electric.

Im the main lyricist but our pianist/lead vocals guy writes most of the music.

On my own I also do percussion (mostly xylophone and other mallet percussion) and dabble with piano though Im not very good.

I was in a band in the early 2000's thoughout the decade. We were much bigger overseas than we ever were here. Our largest festival crowd was about 8K. Warped Tour could be considered, but there are so many bands and we didn't play the main stage. The largest show we played for ourselves was selling out Astro Hall in Tokyo, JP.

I just moved to a new city so Im not in any band or anything. But Id like to be but Im probably really not good enough for it.

Never say that you're not good enough, there are always bands out there of different skill level and every one has something to contribute.

When I started in my band, it was because I wanted to challenge myself.
To learn something, and to just have fun.
All the other members are so talented that I was doubting myself for the first 9 months or so, but after that I started to accept that this is gonna take a long time and I should just enjoy myself while I learn and meet obstacles.

Just find a band that might suit your needs and skills, as long as it's fun then you're set!

That's impressive! What was the name of the band?

Did you release any albums or music videos? Perhaps put a link here?

That's more than my band practice per week.

We only practice for two hours, well, except when there is a concert coming up, then it's like 4-8 hours per week.

So what kind of music do you guys play?

Honestly, I'd like to, but I totally prefer to remain anonymous. Not that anyone would probably know who I was or care, for that matter. But I like to keep silent. I will say, we weren't anyone "important" but we had a lot of fun tours. We released 3 albums ourselves before signing with Universal. We released one with them before asking to be let out of our contract. We were with a In-N-Out records in Japan and Rude records in the UK. We were on a bunch of car commercials in Italy, but we didn't have anything to do with that. I'm still broke, if that tells you anything?

I totally understand and respect that.

But still, it must've been a fun ride all those years XD

The band I play with now just do it for fun, I don't think we ever want to achieve fame or anything other than local recognition :)
Besides, I like my quiet little town here by the coast in Norway.

Getting a contract with Universal is no small feat, so you guys probably had tons of talent!

Thanks man! You wouldn't believe how much that means to me, and the band will hear about your praise! Believe it or not, but our guitarist on the right there thinks that we/he's not even close to being good enough for concerts!
I'm trying my hardest to convice him that it sounds amazing, and so what if he misses a chord here and there, most likely no-one will notice and besides : everytime you fail you learn something!

I'm serious, thanks for the feedback man! I know the band will be stoked to hear such kind words from someone who has been really far into the music business ^_^

A man of many flavours I see!
I wish I could put my own guitars to good use, I have mostly Ibanez guitars, but when you really don't know how to play anything else then zombiechords and some finger playing/fingertechniques, then I'm really not impressing anyone except for my wife XP

But luckily I can do an "okay" (probably more like mediocre) job in singing with different styles to suit the need of the song, be it soft, strong, clean, raspy (is that a word?), bluesy, hard or borderline screaming.

But it's nothing more than "okay", and that's fine by me, it's just for fun anyway :)

Yeah I cant sing at all and I lost a lot of my ability from not playing for so long because of work. I can still play most Metallica songs that I learned when I was younger but Ill have to sit and look at some Pantera tabs to pick that back up. I mostly strum random chords on the acoustic when I have time.

Yeah, man. I was surprised at how well the sound recorded on that video. Usually it all muffles together, but it was crystal clear. I was definitely digging it!

Well, you gotta have fun with it. I was the bass player for our band and I'm not a very good bass player either, to be honest. I missed a chord or two from time to time, but who cares?! What they gotta understand is everyone watching you, whether it be one person or 1000, WISHES they were you up there. That's a fact and anyone that says otherwise is a dirty liar! Haha. Sounds like he's got more of a fear of being on stage and messing up thinking people will notice. They won't. He'll be the only one. Remember, if you aren't having fun, you're wasting you time.

Anyway, we are working on learning "The memory remains", "Wherever I may roam" and "The Unforgiven part 1".
And one old song from Avenged Sevenfold "A girl I know".

LOL fair enough. I haven't been in a band since high school. We did one gig (for high school hah). I had a ton of fun even though it was a total shitshow.

I'd love to play with other people, but the area Iw as in was so small I never bothered.

But I want to be more active and get out and meet people here since we're in a larger city. Maybe that'll be on my list.
Well, I don't know how you would find other people since mine where provided to me by the government, heh, so I never had to search lol XP

That's exactly what I'm telling him.
But he has serious anxiety.
You see this whole group is actually a music therapy group XP
So someone here have a really bad case of anxiety and therefor needs therapy through exposing himself. I mean he can't even go to the drugstore to get his pills, can't even go for groceries, so yeah he has a lot to work with, but we have managed him to play some concert in a later stage some months ago. After the last song had been played people where "Encore! Encore!" And I made to crowd shot his name over and over su much that he swallowed his fear and changed it out with being pissed at me for the next 5 min of a bonus song XD

I'm not in the same category but I have a TON of life experience since I'm about 16 years older then them, almost to forty.
I have 4 pretty shitty diagnoses, and most of them result in extreme muscle pain, and a lack of sleep.

But I ALWAYS try to be the positive guy in the band and give them positive feedback and talk to them about how they are at the moment.. and most importantly, that it should be conciderd a crime to not share such talent that he has with others..

But we're getting there with him :)

So was our music therapist/music teacher/music leader too, you see he bought camera for almost 1000$, but he was incredibly dissapointed with built in micro phone.

So I just made my wife take care of the live recordings.

Later when he saw this clip he turned around and asked me "What in the world did your wife use as a camera? Because I didn't se her with anything!"

I laughed, leaned on his giant tri-pod attached camera and said with a grin "A Samsung Galaxy S7 mobile"

XD

We both laughed, and from there on out we just made my wife record whenever we needed some videos recorded

I never learned Memory but I did at one point know Roam. Its alright. I prefer Justice or Ride albums, personally. Fight Fire with Fire is a power bomb of a track and Justice has heavy riffs the almost whole way though. I never really listened to Avenged Sevenfold but I know their singer sometimes sounds like Hetfield.

The guitarist is great for not having played that long and your singing isnt bad. I wish I had people to practice with. I usually play with the albums.

I did have some songs recorded but Ive lost them. Going to have to re-record some time.

Black Album bass parts were the easiest for me to learn, since I already knew most of the rhythm guitar parts (James was my god when I was learning to play), and Jason tended to follow him pretty closely, unlike Cliff. Plus I ended up having a lot in common with my bass style and Jason's, as in we both smacked the strings pretty hard with thick picks (he used Jim Dunlop 1.0mm, I use Clayton 1.52mm).

Cliff trained classically in piano before playing bass Im pretty sure and he was regarded as one of the better players of the time. Metallica would be totally different if he were still here. I started on bass myself but didnt understand at the time that it followed the drums more than the rhythm so I switched to guitar and havent gone back. Ive been thinking of picking up a five- or six-string bass lately.
